Yup unexpected powder day, but 'kin windy! Battled once across the Siberian traverse to the hidden-valley (which was fab), but then found a sheltered stash under the Linga bubble so lapped that instead. Best pow day for a long time for me

Sounds amazing and lapping Linga bubble great on a windy day with no crowds - it’s largely only used for transiting. Had similar powder day on Friday lapping sides of Ombrioux black from Monclan.

Didin't know there was a timed one over there. A couple of years ago there was a dual slalom there, which we had great fun on. I remember our friend (aged mid 50's) challenged our son (late 20's) to a head to head, provided our son skiied backwards. Challenge was accepted and it was a dead heat! Scary when son can ski as fast backwards as we can forwards.

Huge improvement since yesterday. Brown patches gone, still some scraped icy bits. High winds - we lost our bottle whilst in Lindarets and the Swiss links closed so headed back over to PLJ. Some light snow after lunch. All in all a fine day.

As silly as it sounds coming to a French ski resort - anyone know of any half decent vegan options in Avoriaz/morzine?

@karin, It's the same dual-slalom but now with timing. Or maybe it always had timing, idk? Mini-shep and I free-skied through there a few years ago, and found an unconscious (brit as it transpired) teen alone lying in the gates. I went and found the pisteurs (having checked he was breathing), they attended and did the necessary as he came round. He said his parents were in the Grande Ours, so I went and found them; the dad said "He'll be fine, I'll come when I've finished my pint"! Pisteurs were not impressed!

Nothing specifically 100% vegan that I could see. Cookie at the top of lindarets does a great vegan (bean) burger and the pancake place at the bottom of prodains claim they can do vegan versions of most things. Evenings you are probably looking for pasta and cheeseless pizza.
Don't think Happy Cow showed anything but worth checking out.

I’m heading out to Morzine this weekend and wondering what the general sentiment is for next week’s conditions. The general forecasts seem mixed—but seems likely there will be rain this week, followed by some sunny/mild weather next week. Anyone have a positive forecast that I can disillusion myself with and will the snow hold up?

I fly out this Sunday to Morzine. I'm more optimistic about this January trip than I have been for the last few years. Take your pick re the forecasts. Over the next few days Morzine will probs get rain in the village, may snow above the Pleney and Avoriaz will get snow. Early next week the sun comes out. That said, it's the mountains so it could all change!!

Avoriaz, Plaine Dranse and Pre La Joux should be lovely in the sun next week. Don’t worry about it at all. We are there for a few days from the 16th (we have been doing this for the last few years) and conditions are looking pretty decent.

Today not so good. Rain to 1800m high winds and Avoriaz / Châtel closed and I assume also the other libks. The snow line will progressively lower over the week bottoming out at 800m on Saturday. This is from
bergfex and local reports.

I'm off to PdS for a few days in the latter half of next week (Thurs-Sat), and staying in Avoriaz. Is there much of a consensus on what the conditions are likely to be over that period?

Looks like a dry / mild weekend. As I mentioned above, Avoriaz, Plaine Dranse abd PlJ should be ace. It all depends on what your expectations are - we are PdS regulars and my advice would be to have a plan for each day, utilise aspect / sun to your advantage etc. And sit on a terrace, order a coffee or beer and enjoy where you are.

Anything that is washed away will come back when it snows lower later this week. It does not take much for the pasture based slopes to become skiable. The conditions are generally very good and noting to worry about. There was a big snow making undertaking last Friday even through it had previously snowed - I counted 18 canons working hard on Linga sector all night - they are already preparing for Feb holidays.

This is right I think. We came down the bottom of Linga yesterday afternoon and it was in perfect nick and empty. Everywhere above PLJ that had cannons was fine.

Thanks very much. Looking forward to it!
First visit to the PdS, and hoping to ski as much of it as is realistically possible in 3 days. Broadly, we are thinking of a day skiing around Avoriaz, a day over in and around Chatel, and then ideally a day on the Swiss side in Les Crossets and Champoussin. Of course, alternative itineraries would be very welcome!

@kebeliever101, Sounds sensible and IMO better than doing the PDS Loop. Chatel side is vast and you could have a great day doing an out-and-back, from Linderets, to La Chapelle Braitaz sector via Torgon providing the links are open and you dont mind drap lifts once you are beyond Super Chatel. Let us know how you get on.

@kebeliever101, I personally would not dedicate a day to Avoriaz, you could do most of that area in combination with other trips. Suggestions below:
Day one start by heading over to Lindarets, ski down to the Ardent bubble then back up to Chaux Fleurie and over to Plaine Dranse, Cornebois lift, ski to Combes lift, ski down Linga to the bottom, up gondola, links via Vonnes to Super Chatel and ski that area, including Corbeau side of Morgins if conditions good. Then ski down to Chatel centre and bus to Pre La Joux. Check watch. If you have time more skiing above Plaine Dranse or back up Rochassons, down to Lindarets and up to the ridge above Avoriaz. If you keep moving that is around 4-5 hours. You might want to stop for coffee (just below Linga bubble is La Leiche on skiers right) or lunch (loads of options)
Day two head up the Intrets chair and ski Arare and or Coupe du Monde down to Prodains, back up from Prodains, down Crot and up the Grandes Combes lift and make your way to Fornet bowl. Then over to Swiss side, either Swiss wall or lift down or Cubore lift and Cases lift to above Les Crosets. Wander around the Swiss side and then head up Grand Conche or Swiss Mosettes and down to Lindarets, back over to Avoriaz.
Day three either all the bits of Avoriaz you haven’t done plus Super Morzine or Super Morzine down to the gondola, down to Morzine, walk across to Pleney and ski Morzine/Les Gets. Last bus back to Prodains and up the Prodains gondola to home.
Lots of alternative itineraries available!

@kebeliever101, my day one suggestion is a longish day, particularly if you are having to routefind and certainly if you tack on @Ozboy’s La Chapelle suggestion. Certainly one for an early start once you have your ski legs, maybe not day 1.

@kebeliever101, Many visitors seriously miss out on some wonderful skiing on the Swiss side, thinking of it as either simply a part of the 'loop' to get past as quickly as possible or just good for half a day. I recommend that you do not try to combine it with the Prodains area as suggested, but instead take a good day there, including, indeed perhaps doing it early in the day, a run down Tovassiere (blue) or Didier deFago (blue or black) to Morgins itself, lovely long run out through the trees, flattish for the last half of it, then back via Champoussin, making sure to do the rarely-skiied lower runs around there and les Crozets, thence back towards Avoriaz.
I'd recommend lunch at Chez Gaby 1600 - one of my faves, go for the gourmet rosti with sausage, egg, onions and all sorts of goodies on it.

I'll be coming straight from five days in Samoens, so should definitely have my ski legs - the question is whether they'll already be knackered by then... We are certainly a group who tends to ski first lift to last with short lunches, so long days are what we look forward to most of all. Appreciate it!

Many thanks for the recommendations! Just watched some videos of the skiing on these runs and will certainly be spending some good time in these parts. I think that rosti will go down a treat also.

Yes, we've been doing this in more recent years. Heading over that way and making the most of that area as a day in itself. It's good fun, although Tovassiere was in a poor state when we did it a couple of years ago, which wasn't great, so hopefully it'll be in better condition this year.

@DJL, This is super interesting as I’m heading out for 3-4 days from 17th and am planning routes (yes organised fun), however we’re staying in central Morzine.
We’ve done the 3V and Saalbach/H ‘circuits’ and was considering doing this in PDS. However wondered if 3 other itineraries covering pretty much areas you’ve said would be better.
Day 1 - Les Gets and chamoussiere/nyon
Day 2 - Avoriaz, chavanette and over to Châtel, linga and plaine dranse before back
Day 3 - whatever we enjoyed more or better suggestions.
Obv we miss out all of Swiss side this way but I’m not clear on how much of a hike that is from Morzine with limited time. Perhaps a trip over there and then a smash back down Hauts Forts as the last day.
Any advice gladly received, thank you!
