Road snowmagedon Monday morning: lots of very slow drivers and a few cars stopped in the middle of the road - as usual, people without snow tyres who only think about fitting chains when climbing from Taninges to Les Gets.
Being constrained in LG we enjoyed a powder day. We didn't venture far, at least managed multiple Myrtilles, under Ranfolly, under Nauchets.
Although getting stuck in waist high snow is not my idea of fun, especially with people pointing and laughing. It's like proper snow is so rare nowadays that I actually have no experience as to how to efficiently get back above the snow - and stressing about losing a ski deep down.
To those out there today: enjoy, hopefully there's more sun than down here (under a stratus)!
To those on their way to PdS: rejoice, there's plenty of December snow (for once)!

So who's around tomorrow? I have a fuel delivery then a 10am departure, but the only arrival is already sorted. so I could be up for meeting anyone who fancies hooking up.
After today's little foray out I realise my knees may not be up for a full day bashing through the off piste, so some gentle cruising would be well in order.
Drop me a PM if anyone's around. Thnks

Festive greetings all. Had a good slide on Mont Chery xmas eve, got there a bit late but still found plenty of quality side piste snow. Nord side black as usual got bumpy very quickly, and clearly had a lot of its snow blown away at the top, but the rest of the area is in great shape. Managed to get the family to join in for a change....pic below was when kid2 tried to ski between kid1s legs, and stupidly I forgot that I didn't need to board backwards pointing a 360 camera at them, predictably caught an edge and created a new family xmas photo.
Full vid on usual channel. Hopefully the great conditions hold up for a while.....and then see what the new year brings.

Happy New Year PDS crew. We are in Chatel for all the chaos but sticking to area from Super Châtel to La Chapelle where is quieter and decent snow in unexposed areas but turning brown / thin in some south facing steeper sections without snow making. Sunny all week but crowds have arrived this morning with a shepherd’s warning.

Extremely windy and lifts are closing. I am stuck in Chatel village as they’ve shut TC Suoer Châtel and now trying to get to kids for end of lesson via Lac Vonnes. Links to Avoriaz shut and quite a few groups from Morzine abd CH looking for taxis.

Yep, pretty breezy in the PDS today. I started at Linga with the intention of going over to Avoriaz, but by the time I got to the top of Rochassons the pistes down to Lindarets had been closed, as had the Chaux Fleurie lift back.
In the end I jumped on the Portes Du Soleil lift and had lunch at the top of the Super Chatel, it was stopping every couple of minutes.
I’m now drinking a beer in La Ferme at the top of Linga and it’s started snowing!

First post in a while after a hectic Christmas period. Was in Avoriaz on 19th and arrived to a heavy snow fall all that day and into the night. Had great conditions for the Friday and Saturday of skiing and then left late Saturday night to head back to Geneva, with another absolute dump of snow forecasted (and fulfilled!!) for the next 3 days.
Anyone who went out for the Xmas week must have been on cloud 9!! And very jealous that I didn't stay longer than just a quick weekend!
I've got a few more holiday days to take before a weeks trip to La Rosiere in March so will try to get another weekend in at the PDS over then next 6 weeks!

It’s a good thing I’m not in charge of our arrangements. I thought we arrived on the 10th for our week in the alps, turns out it’s the following week!
Anyhow, I’ve been keenly watching the forecast and was wondering what the chances of the runs back into the village remaining or being open at all? My guesses are that they will be closed next week but hoping there might be some new snow to follow and cold enough to make some. I’ve never managed to ski down Le Stade!
I’ve been watching with envy at those who have been there over Xmas and new year

You should definitely head to Avoriaz via the super moraine lift at least one day. I’d go early in your trip as you’re likely to want to go again before you leave.

@kinger123, my guess is they will still be open but the bottom of the Morzine runs is quite low and may suffer. Good tip to head to Avoriaz. I'm out next week so fingers crossed it is a bit cooler than forecast

About 20 cms fell overnight in Chatel with lots of bombing heard this morning: @kinger123, looks like more snow arriving next week and find Meteoblue.com quite accurate a few days out.

I have my fingers crossed, Bergfex looks encouraging. The forecast is certainly more favourable in the run up than previous years.
All of our our previous visits have been spent mostly around Avoriaz due to conditions so know that area reasonably well. It would be nice to some new sectors, I've not made it over to Chatel before and going by the comments here, the slopes are good and relatively quiet

@kinger123, If you get the bus Morzine to Ardent you can get the bubble up to the top of the goat village (Lindarets) from there one lift (Chaux Fleurie) gets you to the ridge above Chatel. Saves the tedium of going via Super Morzine.

@kinger123, Chatel is vast area and it good alternative to Avoriaz. There are four sectors: Pre La Joux (busiest), Linga (north facing and race course terrain good vertical 2000-1200m, Super Châtel (above village sunny and quiet - beginners area with some steep runs off Monclan and access to Morgins CH. I am here today and lots of fresh tracks), Petit Chatel/Torgon/La Chapelle (going back in time, old lifts and drags but great skiing to be found and a good day out with amazing views). You could easily cover all four out-and-back in a day if younstary at Montriond.
Having break at the bottom of Conche lift as I write this.

Must have been 40cm at 1500m on Chavannes side, I went for the first chair but the lift open was delayed by 15-20min as the young lifties had to clear the take off area, they were sweating hard in fairness while a bunch of us stood there watching them tray it out. I would have helped out if had shovel
Will provide the evidence later....sore legs

Visiting Avoriaz first week of Feb... Looking for recommendations for best traditional mountain food restaurant in the village. Specifically, looking for hot stones rather than the cheesy raclette.
La Cachette seems to do them - varying reviews on Google. Can anyone recommend that, or an alternative place ?
Thanks!

Hello guys - is there a timed slalom course in the area? We are in Montriond for a few days next week and lad #2 would like to practice his turns and potentially film a segment for his PE GCSE evidence submission. Thanks.

Looks like a good amount more due this week too but the freeze line over 2000m when the most precipitation is due is concerning me (I'm a natural pessimist!) Will the lower slopes be ok?
As mentioned before, in my three previous visits to Morzine and the PDS I've never been able to ski down Stade under the Pleney lift and would really like to be able to do so. I know skiing elsewhere is set to be better than my past experiences but it would be nice! I must still be haunted by the green pasture that welcomed me in 2023

Quite a lot settled in the village here at 1300m. Just about to go out and clear a car off, looks like a good 20cm from the upstairs window.
