Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Some great tips ! Thanks so much. Can't wait to explore the area, first time les Arcs, looking forward to see something new after 10 consecutive years in Les 3 vallées.

@Kouemaha, As a hint, I usually start my trip by going up Combettes (just cos I cann't be bothered to walk through the village) then take Mont Blanc chair lift and the piste of the same name down. This gives you a good chance to refresh your skiing skills with shorter turns on the steeper bit at the top and huge carves on the wider bit at the bottom. Try and do it non stop. Then I take the Cachette and Clocheret lifts for the Clocheret piste. By that time I'm warmed up and have a good impression of what the skiing is like over the whole resort and can make judgements accordingly.
Pretty much my preferred routine, too. Clocherets with new snow is wonderful, first thing.

Light snow at mid-mountain level (here in Arc 1800), but unbroken blue sky above 2100m currently. The Tarentaise is full of clouds and it’s cold enough (-Cool to wrestle a bit of moisture out of the air.

I’m coming to Les Arcs next month. I still have my lift pass for la Plagne from last year. Can I add les Arcs lift pass on to the same card does anyone know?

A related question too; we’re off to La Plagne at Easter and don’t feel the need for a full Paradiski pass for the week but is it possible to top up the La Plagne area pass to do a day in Les Arcs?

@Maniemoo, quote from another thread:

"There are 2 lift pass companies in Europe, so you can reuse any old cards you haven't returned, as long as the resort uses that system

TeamAxess passes in resorts like La Plagne etc have numbers starting WTP: xxxxxxxx-xxx-xxx

SkiData is used by other resorts and has number format 01-1614 xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx-x"

@bigtuboflard, https://en.la-plagne.com/discover/ski-area/ski-passes

"The Paradiski extension : this extension, which adds to your La Plagne ski pass, allows you to ski on the slopes of the large connected ski area for one day. The good idea: take the extension in the second part of your stay (but not on the last day). This way, you have time to get well acquainted with the La Plagne ski area at the beginning of your stay before venturing further. And you can stay on the nearby slopes at the end of your stay, when you start to get tired."

@sugarmoma666, It's been a bit ropey all season. They're waiting for a part to arrive still so I think it's not quite operating 100% yet.

TransArc was fine for me when I rode it around 9.20am. I think there were some PR events during the day to officially inaugurate the new lift, so maybe that resulted in some downtime?

@rob@rar, PR stuff was the day before. A friend who works for ADS told me there is still a part to turn up and then once it's fitted it'll be able to run even faster!

Sad news, this morning a 62 year old English woman crashed into a British 35 year old - the 62 year old died of traumatic shock. 35 year old had their leg broken.

That’s very sad indeed.

I see that the run is now graded as black for the entire run, has the layout changed? I’ve skied it a couple of years ago when it was designated as part red.

I think it was redesignated last year as it was black then. It was a whiteout when I went up but the "red" cutoff at the top still existed.

Must be tragic for the family.

Some advice please from Les Arcs restaurant experts.
Some years ago, quite a few years in fact - the year the Vanoise was shut while the cable was replaced - I was taken to a super restaurant at the bottom of the Comborciere and St Esprit lifts by Bernard Condon, long lamented previous poster on this forum (now spending his time doing good deeds in life boats). We went down some wooden stairs into a really cozy seating area and had a fantastic "proper" French meal. Bernard invited along a female friend. We got on rather well. She became my wife.
We would like to return, but realise there are 2 restaurants down there: the Belliou la Fumee and Le Chalet Du Pre St. Esprit, and we're not quite sure which one is "our" restaurant.
Can anyone give advice on which restaurant might have been our authentic Savoyard eatery?

@Jonpim, belliou la fermée. You need to make a reservation. There isn’t a downstairs to the chalet

Looking at trip advisor I’d be booking Belliou la fumee. It looks fabulous. In fact I think I might try it in that day when I can’t be xxxx to ski much further. Usually Wednesday Very Happy

@Jonpim, Definitely Belliou. Very few covers, so booking essential.
Also, IIRC from our summer visits, quite a healthy bank balance. But worth it.

Thank you KSH, johnE and Arctic Roll. I thought Belliou was the place, but was also sure we went down some stairs to eat, so confused.
Therefore we are going over to Les Arcs today to check out both places, and book whichever seems right.

Definitely the Belliou, my favourite restaurant in the area, wonderful when you can sit outside. Funnily enough I though there was a downstairs area, but maybe I am misremembering as it's years since I've sat inside.

Not a restaurant I’ve eaten in for many years, but I also remember heading downstairs and a very large circular fire pit that you could sit around. All very lovely. I wandered past the restaurant a couple of days ago and met a lovely Samoyed dog there who was playing in the snow, delightfully named “Ice”. Not sure if the dog was resident or visiting, but he was quite bonkers.

Well, it was a successful trip over to Les Arcs yesterday.
It is definitely Belliou - fumée not fermée @johnE (i suspect your were sabotaged by Spellchecker).
And it does have a downstairs: rather steep wooden stairs, down to room only used if weather is bad and all eating inside.
Charming young band of staff, obviously none there 17 years ago.
Table reserved for tomorrow.

@Jonpim, glad it was open and I was wrong. I’ve never eaten there mainly because we can never forecast where we’ll be at lunchtime to make a reservation.

i am considering if it is worth it to take the essential ski pass or not. Ok, except the hald day at arrival, what really it works with priority lines? Is this something line the one-person line in USA?
I mean we are a family of four. Dont bother to have other if the lift is a 6er etc, but do not want to let the kids alone with other people if the lift is a 4er (and definitely they will be also againist this option).

@turms2, very much depends on when you are coming, if it's half term then I'd still recommend it and tell the kids to suck it up, if not then probably ok.
