Why are the "sealing" the coaches?
Do they think some channel migrant might try to sneak back into the EU?

I`m likely to be in Europe already when this comes in, I wonder how it will work when I`m coming home? Might there be a possibility of doing all the finger printing stuff in Europe and maybe therefore missing some queues?

Because they’re processing coach passengers on the other side of Dover, then driving across the town to get on the boat.

There are traffic cones and diversions in place all over the Folkestone tunnel terminal. I can only see the usual chaos ahead.

@Hells Bells, thanks
"The kiosks will allow up to 2,000 passengers – or 700 vehicles – per hour to undergo the new border checks required as part of the scheme.". one train is 120 cars so that sounds like good capacity even at peak times (although it will take longer to be processed than at present)
"The kiosks have been specially designed to work with vehicles, unlike those in airports which are designed for foot traffic." I wonder how?
"The system “recognises the status of passengers in the vehicle (EU nationals, non-EU travellers to the EU or travellers who already registered with EES),” Getlink said. “On arrival at check-in, the vehicle number plate is read by a camera. The system then combines the vehicle plate number with the advanced passenger information entered by the customer during the booking to determine the vehicle status,” it added. The vehicle will then be guided to the correct lane, preventing those who have already provided information – or do not need to – from joining the wrong queue and increasing wait times. " Hopefully people will understand it.

seems a relatively simple and straightforward process combining the ANPR and API systems, must admit i had been wondering how it will be implemented once people have started to cross after registering, and i have been following this thread for some time and cannot remember anyone suggesting this method?
i will just need to make sure all of the passengers in the car i am travelling in next time i go, all have the same checks carried out
with regards to Dover, i have not used this crossing in a couple of decades, do you go through French passport control in the UK, like Eurotunnel, or do you pass through French passport control in Calais?
i have used portsmouth-caen/cherbourg regularly in the last few years and French passport control is carried out when arriving in France, so i assume they will be implementing any biometric registration. last time i went through caen in june, there was some building work being carried out near passport control, but could not tell if it was for this purpose.

@terrygasson, On the ferry french passport control is on this side, given what the Times article said I'm avoiding Dover and sticking to the tunnel until the work is done.

@radar, cheers, i was not planning to use this ferry route either, as i prefer ET if going from Kent, just could not remember how the passport side was processed in Dover, and was just curious about it. as others have mentioned, Dover does not seem to have the space for this at present.

The EU was always going to sulk for a decade or more about Brexit. France and Germany know they are the only realistic options to pick up the UK's tab but now Merkel's gone, already Germany is looking to restore free movement to under 30s. France will follow when Micron's gone. Pity Ursula's still there but then it's a cabal so to be expected but she surely must retire by the time she's 70 so there's still hope.
Whatever, they all know that they need UK tourism income more than we need theirs and they're just trying to save face by being as awkward as possible in the immediate aftermath to appease their own citizens, to the detriment of their own economy. It will pass.
