NOTE.. It is not clear from the report if the poster was Skiing Solo or not
Seriously NOT recommended to ski these two off piste variants Solo no matter how experienced you are ..None of this area is controlled .. Maroital is especially notorious for Slides in any conditions. Past seasons many (inc a very experienced local ski guide) have taken their last ever run here.
Be careful out on hill ...We are just starting the high season but there has already been many serious injuries and fatalities (on piste) across the Alps in the last month ..Only last weekend a 21yr Dutch woman in Val Thorens, France ( Blue Piste) and last Tuesday a 11yr Austrian girl in Wargrain, Tirol (Black Piste) .
For Folks who are not sure what an a self releasing sudden Avalanche and how fast they go .. This was in Courchevel, France last month it can happen anytime anywhere. !!
Anyone know what’s up with Valfagehrbahn? Was very sick yesterday afternoon and didn’t spin at all today. Does rather split the wider area in two - we got the bus back from Lech today.

@DidierCouch, It has been not well for a few weeks now (see some of my posts above). The village gossip I heard is that it will be replaced in the summer, no idea if that is true but given how much they charge for passes the lift company needs to get this sorted. They did get the bus shuttle from Rauz to St Christoph sorted but a bit dull. If you can live with the Postbus thats a better option
After all it is free
After all it is free
Thanks @munich_irish, from the plethora of barriers and signage at the top of 100 today, I suspected it was voll kaput. Didn’t know of the shuttle bus, that would at least open up Stuben if the situation is the same tomorrow.
The postbus would be perfectly acceptable if we didn’t have to sit in front of an USAnian couple, bemoaning how Europeans no longer have any manners apparently, and ‘they’ (Europeans) were too lazy to ski back to StA… Funny, I don’t remember Austria or most other European nations threatening to annexe neighbouring nations in the last 80 years or so
PS not having skied Arlberg in 12 years, Warth is a great addition, a real contrast to the skiing in the other areas

@stanton, any weather forecast for longer than a week is suspect for nearly 3 weeks away is crystal ball gazing.
Crystal ball gazing & a bit more but no where as accurate as the cows . I am only out by a day or two...13th -14th ---
Snow in time for the Kids Ski Vacations
We should get 25-30cms if we are lucky !!
From Thursday, precipitation creeps towards the northern Alps
Little will change on Wednesday, but on Thursday the cold well, again against the current, seems to move to the east and the way is finally cleared for the cold air.
It can reach the Alps on Thursday or Friday and then some snow can fall, especially in the north of Switzerland and Austria
However, it is not certain whether most of the precipitation falls in or before the cold air.
Tomorrow (Wednesday) it will reach +12C on the Northern Alpine Flank and around +6C in St Anton.
Next week it will turn very Spring Like Temperatures in the afternoon +++++C
I was down in Innsbruck around 12:30 it was overcast but a warm +11C for the time of year
Unfortunately the Off Piste Routes down from Rendl are not recommended right now, low snow pack (lower sections) obstacles (rocks ditches) & a VERY LONG egress walk out.
Next week it will turn very Spring Like Temperatures in the afternoon +++++C
Perhaps time to use a different weather forecast site, a grown up one like https://wxcharts.com/. Neither of the two main weather models suggests spring like temperatures, in fact one, ECM, suggests a cold spell remarkably like your original guess. The other one suggests more similar weather as currently which seems to be what the local bod on the tourist office site thinks.

On the brightside snow is finally falling. The downside is I still feel nausea when skiing in bad vis so it's another lost ski day for me
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

@badatbetting, when you are there for a period of time ski the good days and dont feel bad about sitting out a white out (though it looks as if you might get a few brighter spells). Forecast suggests cloudy & snowy until Friday, then really nice on Saturday. Plan to get on the first lift then!
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Yep that's always the strategy. the issue is I have two friends visiting and hence getting a lot of abuse about not going out today...

Hey man Chillout.. ...stop being so critique everything i post..I try to be accurate & reliable as I can ..
but I have a question..
You only ski on the carpet groomers and your not into the Apres Ski scene .
So if your living in Munich why are you coming all the way to St Anton to ski .? Its madness.
Do you have a your own place in the valley or paying for expensive accommodations ??
TBH. If you dont want to Ski in Germany and just Ausrria your be much better off just taking the €6.50 Flixbus from MÜnchen ZOB to Seefeld its only about 1h 45mins and the coach stops right at the Ski Lift ..
Seefeld will have all the kind of groomers you need ..I think your really benefit from the area.
Then for another €.6.50 after skiing you can be back home in Munich or out for food and drinks as you know it is ways cheaper than St Anton ..
Snow tomorrow (Thursday 13th Feb) we cold get around 20-25cms of Dandruf by Friday Morning
However, for this weekend high pressure there will be perfect winter conditions.
Inverse Temperatures :--
Cold in he Valleys
Up on the Hill already becoming much milder again.
Monday next week, Monday a new, weak system approx 15-20cms snow could develop further but as above currently looking Spring Föhn Like later in week 15C+ incomming
@stanton, Shame your info is rarely reliable or accurate.
No I dont just stick to "groomers" and yes I do stop for an apres beer even if somewhat less than in the past.
If I get the 17:00 train back I am home by 20:30 and it costs me €16 including a reserved seat.
Cost of accommodation has increased significantly in past 5 years (increases pre date covid)
Oddly the cost of a lift pass is cheaper for me in the Arlberg than in most of the other large Austrian areas (even more so with the very good deal on a season pass).
Food & drink in Munich is not much, if any, cheaper than in St Anton (assuming you avoid stupid places like Base Camp). Same beer too seeing as Augustiner & Tegernsee seems to be very popular.

@munich_irish, Im convinced your that Old Australian Witch from the Underground.. When she first came over to Europe she first tried to make go of it in Germany before being booted out into Austria ... I was thinking she may of returned to Germany but they do not wan immigrants anymore and unfortunately she still lives in town here.
OK folks its been snowing... but this afternoon raining in the Valley. but the temperature will drop later & its going to snow throughout the night......
I think we may of had (so far) approx 10cms up on Galzig
@stanton, much easier for non EU folk to live in Germany than in Austria. All those with UK passports I know are now "German" and in general no big issue to get a visa to come to work here unlike in Austria. What this has to do with skiing in St Anton no idea.....
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.
@stanton, suggesting Seefeld as an alternative to St.Anton is not very convincing is it....
Been watching a certain Dutch TV show too much lately?
Most Winter sporters to the Arlberg never get to ski/ride/tour these parts..
Lets take a cruise around Albona
Flexenpass in Zürs am Arlberg and continues via Stuben am Arlberg, past the old Albonabahn I chair lift which was demolished in 2022, to the Albona.
After a panoramic view with unusual sights (without ski slopes in the pandemic winter of 2021), we go down to the Maroital valley to the Verwallsee and then deep into the Schönverwall valley.
Ends with a short detour into the Silbertal valley at the “Langen See” on the Gaschurner Winterjöchle.
ALBONA - Seamless Seasons (Arlberg/Austria in 4 seasons)

@BobinCH, Sadly not been able to get there this weekend, after a couple of days of moderate snow, it was cold and the sun shone, pretty much perfect. Unfortunately the next couple of weeks looks like wall to wall spring sunshine . Ideal for the profits of the apres bar owners, skiing of any variety less so.

@BobinCH, The slog up to the last bit of the Valluga has always struck me as very hard work! The foreshortening in the first image got me its the Madlochbahn in the distance which appears to be much closer than it actually is. Jealous as stuck doing work, hope the snow is still there in a couple of weeks!

Someone had put in the bootpack so just 20 mins. Family took the Flexenbahn route… Nice side piste pow all the way to Zug. Just stuffed our faces with ribs and strudel in Balmalp so going to have to hotfoot it to get back to Nasserein!

I was in Munich over the weekend . I used the Flixbus .. return trip from Innsbruck was only €15 only 2hr 15mins (including German border control at Mittenwald) faster than the connecting train service in Kufstein..
The return bus was full of Scandinavians (Bus starting point was from Munich Airport before Munich ZOB)
Why the bus was being controlled, I spoke with the driver about border control, he said the Deutsche BundesPolizei stop every bus so its a Flixbus scheduled stop.i..Everything was in order with all the passengers, so its was just 15minutes to grab some fresh air..
A few passengers got off & on in Seefeld & Garmisch P.
I went to one of my usual places in Munich ... Cash ONLY
Huge Wiener Schnitzel Vom Kalb (paniert) mit Kartoffelsalat 15,90 €
Hausgemachter Strudel 3,50 €
Augustiner Hell vom Fass 0,5 L 3,50 €
Leitungswasser Free
Half of the Schnitzel i got them to wrap in a Pfennigmuckerln (Münchener Brotzeitsemmeln) to go .. (No extra charge) !!!
Surprising amount of snow on the Seefeld---Mittenwald High Alpin Plateau (they had snow last week)
Definitely an ideal gentle langlauf and terrace retreat for @Langerzug and @munich_irish,
Beautiful day down here in Innsbruck round about +5C and Sunny ... By Wednesday/Thursday it will +15C
Last Wednesday evening a pedestrian (20yr) was hit (Hospitalised) by car on Arlbergstraße near the Station. The Pedestrian was on the illuminate protected sidewalk.
Pretty much the same modest cold temperatures until Wednesday.
Then all change (as predicted) the winter cold will disappear back to northeastern Europe.
We will have a spring-like mild temperature level. We will see +10C in St Anton by Friday and the Weekend
No new precipitation is in sight.
It is turning out so far a repeat of last season !!
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?
@stanton, If its cash only I for one wouldnt be eating there. Bank notes belong in a museum!
Train is far more comfortable and around two hours from Innsbruck to München Ost including change at Kufstein (direct train quicker but then I cant use a Deutschland Ticket) plus no border stops. Straight across the platform to an S bahn home.
Just looked at the weather forecast and all change this morning. The suggestion from both of the main models is that after the mild weekend it will turn colder and unsettled, how much snow there will be who knows but it does seem as if the early spring weather is a short interlude. Enjoy the sun whilst you can!

@BobinCH, these are great pics and appreciate your reports. Have you been touring solo? I'm a US-based skier and have been skiing in the Dolomites annually for the past several years. When the conditions allow, I tour alone (but there are often other local skiers or small groups with guides on the same route). I'm looking for areas to ski in Austria to expand my horizons and your reports sound amazing. Any advice on routes, books, locations to overnight would be wonderful to read.
Warm regards,
