Personally being somewhat more mature I prefer Take me Home Country Roads as it also a Man Utd song (drinking lots of beer is one way of forgetting how rubbish they are at the moment)

Go to the Moose, that song is played nearly everyday, though personally I think there are much better ones, one of my favourites is Helikopter 117.
Tops for me - Puhdys Hey, Wir Woll'n Die Eisbär'n Sehn!

@munich_irish, because the snowreport is new every day, and thus doesn't show the cumulation of two (or more) days....Whilst many people like to know that after a storm that lasted more than a day.....
One look at the webcams today tells you there was clearly more than 15 cm of new snow over the last days

Had a day off from instructing today. So went to Lech with a mate. The highlight was skiing the Langer Zug twice in good snow conditions. (Tho‘ in flat light for the second run as it was shortly before 16.00). Earlier, off piste under the Kriegerhorn in relatively warm temperatures had been heavy going through the broken powder.

@Langenzug @munich_irish This season two skiing partners have been instructing mornings in Arlberg, while I have also reduced my own instructing commitments. Hence I have been skiing Lech & St Anton more regularly than for many years - which explains my sudden emergence on this thread. (Except during Covid, I have actually held an Arlberg season pass - alongside a Montafon Jahreskarte - for many years now but tended to use it largely in Sonnenkopf as I live near Klostertal.) Fyi, if I were restricted to one pass, I‘d choose Montafon over the Arlberg without any hesitation! Ymmv.

Going to Sonnenkopf again today, where on piste snow has been good all season, but the ski routes have been closed and the off piste has been mostly freeze-thaw concrete. Realise it is of little interest to most readers of this thread who, understandably, want to hear about Lech or St Anton, so update will be brief.
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

@Bergsteiger278, slight hint: there is enormous difference between being a local who can choose his moments, and being a holiday maker, needing to make the most of just a few days in the Alps.
Just to name a -for some not so important aspect-: food: My brother, who knows Lech as well, was in Silvretta Montafon last winter for some days: Main complaint: desperate lack of good restaurants on piste. (even in St.Anton the level of restaurants is below par)
Other aspects: snow in de village, beauty of the village, mixture of skiing possibilities.
Etc etc etc etc etc.
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Off to Arlberg in Feb and thinking of stopping off for a day or 2 in Silvretta Montafon in the way there or back. What are its strong points?
You know it makes sense.

@Bergsteiger278, I'd be keen to learn more about Sonnenkopf, been twice with the kids, once blasted by high winds up top and subsequent icy pistes and quickly retreated, the other time was sunny and warm, would love to try some of the off piste there!

@Langerzug, One of my main complaints about Lech is the lack of places for a quick lunch, I know there are a couple in Oberlech but there is little choice if you dont want table service.

@Lungenzug Indeed, it depends what your expectations from skiing are. I was for a long time myself a 3 times yearly tourist to Arlberg & Gastein before moving to the Vorarlberg over 10 years ago. So I‘ve experienced it from both angles.

@RobinCH In a nutshell variety & reliable snow. Has everything from easy pistes to some seriously committing/challenging ski routes & off piste, with great powder skiing after a dump. Don‘t just take my word for it ask @Clarky999 - he lived in Montafon for a while. For a first visit, I recommend Schruns or Gaschurn as a base with easy access to the central areas of Hochjoch and Nova. Don‘t expect any Gastronomie on the slopes & be prepared to speak German!

@kittenski The classic off piste begins at the Glattingrat Seilbahn Bergstation und goes eastwards following the Rinderberg slope to join the valley near the Nenzigastalpe which then leads northwards to Langen. I would recommend taking a local guide as Rinderberg requires some tricky navigation. Good snow is needed. The classic Ski Route number 14 also starts at the Glattingrat Bergstation and basically follows the ridge down to the Tal Station with breathtaking views towards Stuben. A decent snow cover is required. There are also many freeride/powder possibilities between the blue 1, the black 9 and red 10 pistes lower down.
Fwiw Sonnenkopf makes a great play of having no snow making and having only „natural snow“.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Having wetted appetites with the possibilities in Sonnenkopf when there is plenty of snow, my report today is mundane. Basically, no change: pistes in great condition: all ski routes closed: free ride snow unenjoyable compressed powder.
Tomorrow I‘m planning to ski in St Anton. Will report.

We skied in Warth today & it was super. Pistes all open & in super good condition, south facing off piste variable with much of it wind or sun affected, but North facing pitches really good in places & some good opportunities to put in nice fresh tracks.
Going again tomorrow as other than over the back in Rendl & possibly parts of Stuben, I can't see the off piste in St Anton being great tbh (but I haven't skied there yet on this trip)

Plans changed & skied some routes in misty Montafon, so no update on the Arlberg. Going mountain walking tomorrow and then I have a full week of instructing. Meanwhile, over to others to update this thread…

I know. It's Lech after all The self-service in the rather decadent Burg Hotel is quite hilarious. But Salome is quite nice and relaxed I think? (sorry, but we do not do self-service )
But there are still plenty of excellent restaurants without the need to order champagne and break the bank.

For those in the area, with this fantastic weather, four prizes to be found as the week progresses:
High season in the Arlberg. Unlike further east conditions here are good to excellent. Better than they were 2 weeks ago.
Got here on Friday evening, overcast with very light snow. Saturday morning still dull with a layer of cloud at about the level of Galzig. The bus beat the crowds to the sunshine in Zürs. The pistes under the Zürserseebahn & Seekopfbahn were perfect, few people and groomed powder. By 10 the hordes were streaming in from the Flexenbahn which meant queues for the lifts but still few folk on the pistes (I assume the lift capacity restricts the numbers). At 10:30 I skied the black (its not very "black") pretty much on my own and still mostly corduroy. For anyone who wants to practice carving turns in the Arlberg this is the place to be. Täli was as good as ever. Scrum at the Madloch chair, not the best queue layout. Madloch was busy but not annoyingly so, the usual chalky powder hardly any worn spots. Took the Lech variant, some vegetation poking through on the slightly steep bit in the trees just before Lech. Plenty of snow in Lech, for those that wanted to enough snow in the hotel car parks to ski pretty much to the main road. Grabbed some lunch in Filomena (seems to be the best budget option for food in Lech) and squeezed into the Rufikopf lift. Easy ski back to Zürs but was surprised by the queue to head back to St Anton. Oddly no queue for the Valfagherbahn but the lift is still not happy, it stopped a number of times, clearly mechanical issues not folk falling over, must be a concern that it will last the season. Did the usual St Anton stuff all on really nice snow. Despite the hazy sunshine it felt cold all day good news for keeping the snow in decent nick.
Today dawned with a cloudless blue sky. Unsurprisingly lots of people around. Kapall was excellent slightly windblown compacted powder. The race course black was much improved (and empty!). Headed towards Schindler, big queue at Zamermoos where the liftie was making sure every chair went with 4 folk. Again fair queue for Schindlerbahn but it moves quickly. Schindlerkar itself was excellent, perfect snow, the entrance at the top has been groomed so the awkward traverse has gone but maybe better to have left a bit more ungroomed. So good I did a number of laps then headed off for an early lunch. When I got there Gampen was reasonably quiet though the terrace was full but on going back for a coffee there were big queues for food. As ever the crowds had disappeared after lunch so much so that the Schindlerbahn only had one entrance and all cabins stopping at the mid station. On the last run down Schindler hit a rock on the narrowish section below the cliff path, big lump out of the base, odd given how much snow there is. Kandahar & Platti both had nice snow all the way to village level. Noticeable how crowded the blues were compared to the blacks. Sitting at the station looking back up hardly anyone is coming down Platti (despite nice snow) but hordes coming down past the Moose.
All in all an excellent weekends skiing. Despite the sunshine from cloudless skies it generally didnt feel warm (except in Schindler Kar and in the village) so the snow will keep for a while. I did some side piste stuff and again nice snow, not so many off piste parties but anything vaguely accessible has already been skied. The next week is likely to be good (if you can find somewhere to stay).

Up to Thursday, a high sits over Central Europe perfect sunny blue sky weather.
Clear nights, the temperatures drop into the frosty range, but during the day they rise to the early spring-like mild range with the higher rising sun.
Mild temperatures will be noticeable on the hill with a freeze level around 2500m.
On Friday, the high will move will move to the Southern Flank.
As a result, colder air will move in from the east and the weather will become changeable.
Larger amounts of precipitation are NOT to be expected according to the cows.
@stanton, any weather forecast for longer than a week is suspect for nearly 3 weeks away is crystal ball gazing. At some point the current high pressure situation will give way to more unsettled conditions, looks to be set for the next week or so but beyond that is just a guess.
I would suggest the biggest snow storms in the Northern Alps are as a result of a prolonged Nordstau (believe last one was the January 2019 "snowmaggedon") not north westerlies which tend to have milder air from the Atlantic. Maybe its the warmer climate in recent years means less snow & more rain from the north west (or perhaps being unlucky spending wet weekends in the Arlberg!!)
