@badatbetting, there's quite a bit of discussion on Hannes Strolz vs other custom boots on the Dutch wintersport.nl site.
There it turns out that most people probably do not need Hannes Strolz, for them cheaper custom boots work fine.
But it also looks like for those with seriously 'difficult' feet, Hannes Strolz is still the best solution.

@stanton, All the reliable weather forecasts suggest a peak freezing level this weekend of about 2300m on Saturday afternoon because of a Föhn (no doubt too high for January), likely to be some precipitation early next week (might be rain / sleet at village level). No sign of your January heat wave.
Looked in Hervis recently as wanted a new fleece, sadly cheap Chinese stuff, far better off with decent brands. Easy enough to buy last year's models etc online for decent prices. Fine to hire beginner kit there but not much else.

My concern with buying in resort is that you are in and out of the shop if it doesnt fit ok, far better to buy in advance and have sorted than to keep coming off the mountain, plus I bet your choices are massively increased off site

@drporat, It is usually groomed most days. It definitely had been when I skied it on Saturday (the day the picture was taken) I dont think it had been on Sunday but was still easy to ski - very small soft moguls. It is easier to enter at the top either by turning sharp right at the bottom of the short steepish pitch coming down from the mid station or by exiting at the top of the gondola

@PBJ, from top of Rufikopf over towards Zurs via Hexenboden then down to Zurs. Across to Madlochlochbahn, down Madloch to Zug and up the new Zug gondola. At the top across, he avoids the rope tow, and down to Lech through Oberlech.

@badatbetting, I bought Strolz Boots c.2007 and loved them. Had them 10 years. On my 3rd pair of punter boots since I replaced them in 8 years - most recently as my feet had actually grown in the last year or 2 but they are quality. Are they any better than the Nordica boots I bought at my local dry slope ski sale a few years ago for £100 - not convinced but I did love them and still the best fitted boots I've owned. Would love to buy again but not at the price they charge nowadays.
So the thought in certain quarters of a heatwave didnt come to pass, freezing level yesterday afternoon around 2000m (there were spring like temperatures as a result of a strong Föhn in the normal places like Innsbruck & the Bavarian Alpenvorland with afternoon temperatures around 15 degrees but a long way from the Arlberg). Snow over the next few days (though some suggestion of rain at village level tomorrow) possibly a reasonable amount though not as much as further west. After that looks like fairly quiet not very cold winter weather no sign of any serious snowfalls. As ever the forecast can change tomorrow!. Should be good on piste less good off.

@stanton, I think my interpretation of the forecast was far more accurate than wild scare mongering about "heatwaves" but whatever, its currently snowing. There is even a very unusual snow chain ordinance in the village

@Langerzug, Bludenz & Bad Tölz are typical locations that get affected by Föhn temperature swings both being at the ends of valleys which funnel the Föhn winds. Innsbruck often has similar blowing down from the Brenner, I believe that was around 15 or so. A quick look on Saturday afternoon suggested a freezing level in the Arlberg of around 2200m, certainly high for January but not crazily so.
Anyway there seems to have been plenty of snow today, as so often, more than most of the alps maybe a small dusting more before the weekend.

@Langerzug, just looked at that too, At 12:00 Bludenz & Feldkirch were 17 degrees, St Anton 4 degrees. Exactly the same meteorological phenomenon.
