I managed to get up right at the end of the day today. Only enough time for 1 run trying to score a decent CARV, but managed a 159, with turns between 155 and 167. Mrs Swskier was there so I got her to film.
I was cheating on SL skis again, and was thinking about the weight release, so the traverse in between the turns is a bit longer than I'd usually go for in the SL skis.
Very nice- . That's how I think I'm skiing, but I'm totally deluded-Carv has me topping out at 133 so far this season!

I'm shifting my focus now to short turns, for a block of time. I'm reasonably happy where the longs are in regards to my exam next month, but the shorts need to come on.
Managed to bump up to a 151 this morning, but the consistency isn't there. I'm ranging between mid 140s and mid 160s in there, so lots of improvement needed.
@Perty, if you can get someone to film you, it'll really help as you'll see what the difference between what you think is happening and the reality and then can work on it from there.

I think my Carv season has come to an end. My high score (140 shorts) was set 2nd day of my trip 5 weeks ago. Since then I’ve hit the high 130’s a few times generally on touring kit.
Having carv has certainly made me ski harder and think about my piste skiing but the scores have remained firmly in a range.
I suspect that with the right conditions, slope, different kit etc etc I could hit the mid 140s plus of course fitness and hurty old knees. That said I think the scores probably reflect how I’m skiing at the moment especially given I’ve not focused on performance piste skiing since I stopped training a few years ago.
That said I’m at a loss as to the style of shorts and carving they want.
As a self coaching tool I found it deeply irritating for a number of reasons but most because it operates without context and does not reward ‘effective’ skiing. I’m also doubtful of the accuracy of some metrics plus its coaching advice can be a bit random and inappropriate, again due to the lack of context.
Finally the fact that the hardware is effectively worthless doesn’t fit will with recycling and reducing tech going to landfill. I’d really like them to address this point.

@swskier, I agree being filmed definitely helps highlight the issues. I managed my 133 score on 28th December and it all went [ahem!] downhill after that!
1. Later on 28th Dec morning I fell and felt a slight pull at the back on my left knee/ hamstring, was ok to ski, but took it easy.
2.. Then on my way back home on the same day (hard packed worn pistes after 3 weeks of no snow) a small rock in the middle of the piste ejected me from my left ski and I fell knee first onto another small stone. Bruised and feeling a battered I took a couple of days off.
3. Two days later and feeling revived after a successful long walk with the dog, I decided to treat myself to a spa session. As I emerged from a sauna, I slipped on a wet floor, and (probably) broke the toe next to my big toe on my LEFT foot .
For the next 4 weeks it was strapped up, on the plus side, once in my ski boot, I couldn’t really feel the toe, but the whole saga held me back from really going for it and I felt a bit lopsided.
4. To cap it all, I then went down with the mother of all debilitating winter coughs that everyone seems to have succumbed to this winter…
Back in the uk now, but hopefully come March I’ll be fit and ready to bump up that score!

Hi chaps, so having been demoted back to Mountain Master by the new app algorithm (down to 148), I managed to get back to Grim Ripper status, with a 151 carving (scraped into the category, just). Tuning my Atomic S9 carvers properly absolutely helped, as did last weekend's fabulous snow.
Scored a 145 in moguls and a 148 off-piste, so need to up my game there. But I love the new functionality.
My problem is consistency. I really have to be working at it to get the high scores, it is far from effortless. Most of the time, cruising around but sort of concentrating, it's scoring me in the late 130s. I also don't score as highly carving unless I am on the SL skis. My off-piste score was on a pair of Line Bacon 115s, and my best mogul score on Line Chronic 101s. So some consistency/discipline is needed in my skiing.

@Harry Flashman, of course pushing yourself carving is going to get better scores. Just skiing casually you aren’t going to hit the same angles…..
What I find is that the harder I push myself for a top score, the better my “casual” skiing scores are.
I’ve been using the training mode and it it has really helped me improve so far.
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Yeah, tried training mode for the first time and it's really fun! Up until now I have barely used that functionality as I am usually with people, so just ski, and then occasionally try a bit harder to go for a score.
I'm now skiing with audio even with other people, as i have bought some Shokz bone conduction earphones, so can hear both them and CARV. So, I was doing that thing where the app tells you to advance through levels and passes/fails your turns in real time. Amazing!
Now, I'm going to use it as CARV intended, and listen to the advice all the time when out on the mountain!

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

@Harry Flashman, that’s exactly how I’ve started using it.
I did a week. My all time best was 140.
Started the week peaking at 134-135. By end of week I was hitting 143 regularly. Target is 150 for end of season. Will be happy with 148 though.
You know it makes sense.

Thats quite the progression!
I had it on for two days, and training mode still got me from 148 to 151 carving, so I am looking forward to trying it in earnest over multiple days.

Also, I am now going to bring the same effort to the moguls thing as for carving. So great to have multiple disciplines to train!

@Harry Flashman, I used it during my lunch break for Moguls, with training mode on. Unfortunately we only have a zipper line with about 8 turns so it's difficult to practice anything properly. Desperately need to find a proper mogul field to train for my exam at the end of March, but there's nothing in Zillertal, so I might have to head off somewhere else in Austria for a day.
Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

@swskier, Do you have any fresh snow there at the moment? It doesn't take long to build your own zipper line if you have a suitable bit of off-piste around. Certainly a better option than driving to another resort.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@doddsie, what's fresh snow!?
Ideally I don't want a zipper line, our criteria specifically says not a single line / zipper line

Interesting. I got lucky as PdS had some good moguls and long runs last weekend. Shall try to focus in this a bit in my next trip. But I like skiing irregular bumps, as it requires strategy amd adaptability, as well as rhythm. In my mind, this translates nicely to off-piste skiing, even though a zipperline may be better for looking good on skis...
Loving CARV. Was thinking about giving it up, but the new functionality has re-hooked me. That, and actually using it as it was intended...
