@terrygasson, My daughter always steals my CARV and like you say it's not a problem for us to switch phones. Personally I never use the coaching, but I find the scoring becomes very addictive. It's also handy if your kids are good skiers, as they can boost your position on the leader board, I enjoyed my top 100 in the global table last season, although KenX doesn't fall for such cheating on the Snowheads table.

Cheating leads to the dark side!
Score is very addictive….what makes it worse is when my son overtook me by single point. I don’t hear the end of that!

I couldn't use my Carv units yesterday as one sensor isn't charging. Messaged CARV out of hours one evening last week and nothing back yet, so will chase them up again this afternoon.
As it happens conditions and weather meant I'd not have got anywhere to particularly good score anyway. Next back on snow the last weekend in November, so hopefully everything is sorted by then.

Cheers @PisteOffice, that gives me a bit of hope then.
I must admit I have improved a few points though since the first outing with it at Hemel, or I've learnt to play the CARV game.
The CARV has thrown up and highlighted a problem that I suspected.
Instructors have told me in the past the my Right Turn is much better than my Left Turn.
And the CARV app shows it up in the graphic for turn shape and lets me know that my skis diverge quite a bit on the entrance to Left Turns.
When I look at my feet in a natural stance in bare feet my Left foot is diverging a full 15 degrees to Port.
This was due to a an accident on my BSA Bantam in 1966... I should have worked harder at teh physio.
Anyway let see what my numbers are when I get on the mountain.

@DrLawn, my daughter had feet that diverged, the guys at Rivington alpine did something with the insole to try and help that, wonder if there is a technical solution to help you align?
@PisteOffice, any clues as to wether the season release is tomorrow still?

Thank you for the idea @kitenski, I'll bear that in mind when I next buy a pair of boots.
But then I'd be worried about converging my feet on the Right Turn

@DrLawn, custom footbeds. Helped with my stance massively as I have diverging feet too.
Pro feet or ski Bartlett. I went Bartlett and if you get a good fitter it makes all the difference.

Just got round to trying to sort them out again this morning. Tried a reset, but no luck. The one sensor just never flashes yellow when it should be charging, so remains forever on 0%.
Have chased CARV to see whether any humans have seen my message as I only spoke to their AI chatbot last week as I was out of office hours.
We shall see what comes of it, my experience of the CARV customer support in the past has always been positive.

@doddsie, that's what I'm hoping/expecting to happen here also. I'm in the UK this Thursday-Tuesday so it's not like I'll miss out on any ski/CARV action this weekend anyway.

You're making me paranoid now - I put my sensors in storage/sleep mode in April. Must get them out of cupboard and check they wake when I plug them in to charge.
On another note, the new sensors I ordered for my wife using PisteOffice money off code arrived incredibly quickly. The new packaging is very nice, and you get bigger CARV stickers to put on your helmet, boots, suitcase etc...

@swskier, make sure you get them ordered now.
We needed some sent to Italy last year, they were dispatched quickly but there were had problems with the logistics company and long story short we gave up after 5 weeks (we could track them bouncing around the US for weeks!). Hopefully they've changed suppliers or sorted the process out but better err on the side of caution. I never got to use them last year so am looking forward to giving them a try this season.

Just to explain pricing
For new users
If you order a season pass at £199 you get free sensors normally priced at £99 - end price £199
Alternatively you can order a week pass at £99 - but no free sensors - so if you order sensors plus week pass - end price £198
At the minute due to the inclusion of sensors with a season pass it is a no-brainer to buy the season pass. It is unlikely that sensors will always be free with a season pass, it is designed to encourage adoption of CARV.
For existing users (who already have sensors)
Every subsequent year is £199 for a season pass, but this season if you did early renewal in April/May time you got the season pass for £159. I availed of this offer.
I believe PisteOffice genres offer only applies to the Sensors + Season Pass for new users. But you could in theory buy this as a gift for someone to have a spare set of sensors. Season passes are managed through a five letter code which you enter into the app to associate that pass with a user.
@PisteOffice correct me if I am wrong on any of the above!

@ster, I’m sure one could, but for me part of the pull is having historic data and seeing the progression.

@NoMapNoCompass, all correct for now.
The free sensors at the moment is a good offer. Not sure how long they will keep it going for as I don’t have that kind of inside information.
There maybe a Black Friday sale coming up….?? Usually you can’t combine a referral with it. I’ve been told that my referral won’t be beaten.
The only way to better it is the pro deal. So if you have the qualifications it’s a really good deal.

CARV got back to me yesterday evening, asked a few questions, I told them I'd done resets, different charging cable etc, so I have 1 new unit being sent out to me via a warranty claim.
So all good on the customer support when I finally managed to speak to someone.

It's announced...
https://getcarv.com/blog/ski-iq-wasatch
More interpretable
Ski:IQ Wasatch makes it clear how your skiing is being measured so you can understand what drives your score. Every Ski:IQ is broken down into visible metrics in the app. When you improve a metric, your score reflects it.
Rolling Top Eight
Your Ski:IQ is now based on your best eight consecutive turns. There’s no need to stop to lock in your best score, and you’ll receive seamless coaching on any terrain throughout your run.
Ski:IQ Wasatch will be available to all Carv users. Simply update to the latest version of the app when it launches on iOS and Android in late November.

What’s your new score with the update?
Mine has dropped 3 points to 140.

@swskier, well spotted. They added another level!
You only lost 2 points! Last season the update cost me 13 points!
I mean it’s all really irrelevant as all we are after is improvement and the score is recognition of that. So each season is a new base line.

I also noticed that the top skiers on the global leaderboard now are moguls skiers. I know you can filter on skiing type, to me, having an overall global leaderboard across all disciplines doesn't make too much sense now as they're such different skiing styles and techniques now.
Unless it's me not looking properly, it seems as though there's no longer the leaderboards you can create, the Snowheads leaderboard seems to have disappeared now.
It seems as though 160-169 is now called Shred Zeppelin. I'll get working towards that next week as long as my replacement sensor has arrived!

@swskier, not sure how they can solve this one on the overall leaderboard.
I think the default view should be Carv skiing as that’s the name.
My season aim is just to improve from 140 and regular score it. I’m hitting the slopes on a few weeks. Gonna sharpen my edges in preparation.

Are you concerned that in chasing ever higher IQ scores you are going to focus on one type of skiing, where you are most likely to score more highly, to the detriment of your broader skiing skills? Seems to me that there's a potential downside in terms of "valuing what you can measure, rather than measuring what you value" if Carv scores begins to dominate your skiing.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
How do you get the update?
The high IQ for moguls could just be the fact that there were some world class mogul skiers in Hintertux last week on a nice course when the Carv testing crew were there.
