Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hotel accommodation suggestions for Chamonix please

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Just booked flights with easyjet, out Sunday 28th Jan, back Thursday 1 Feb, just £45 each.

Three of us travelling, early 40s so no party animals amongst us !

Looking for a central hotel, near lifts or bus, happy to all share a room if it's big enough.

Appreciate any suggestions for accommodation and transfers, there seem to be hundreds on transfer companies on the Chamonix site.

Thanks in advance.

Mercure next to the station or the one opposite the station on the corner - can't remember the name but below it is the Chambre Neuf which is a pretty damn lively apres-ski bar.

Have stayed in the Croix Blanche, the Morgane, and the Vallee Blanche. Would recommend any, altho fave would be the Crox Blanche. Couldn't be any more central, 5 min walk to Brevent Cable Car, and bus stop right outside.

Very reasonable rates, good central location, rooms can easily take 3. Clean, tidy, decent breakfast, certainly couldn't fault it for the price.

bladeskier, Alpybus in Chamonix I definitely the least expensive we found (haven't used them though so can't vouch for reliability). ATS is very reliable and we have always had English or English-speaking drivers (useful when you don't know exactly where your accommodation is rolling eyes ....)

If you only want hotel accommodation, can't suggest anywhere, but Chalet Blanche is very nice www.demipiste.com it's about 8 mins walk from town, but they run a minibus drop-off/pick up service to the lifts, very efficiently. Nice spacious rooms, good food, English owners. snowHead

masmith, thanks for that, looks like the Pointe Isabelle is the winner, emailed them and they've come back immediately (which is always a good sign in my book !) with what looks like a very good offer, 44 euros pppn including breakfast. Incidentally are you from the blue & white or the red & white half of Sheffield, you can guess mine from the name !

ATS are quoting 2 prices, from GVA french sector they are saying £360 return by private transfer, from just GVA they are quoting £280 return, anyone throw any light on this ?

this is admirable devotion to your team - someone might think that you're a snowblader with a handle like that Laughing

bladeskier, from the proper half, although I must admit you've had the best of recent times!

Maybe also look at http://www.alptransfers.com/transfer.htm - we used these when we went to Chamonix, albeit we filled a minibus but I think they also do shared transfers. Very efficient, friendly, punctual and more competitive than ATS (I've always found ATS to be the most expensive option and have never been let down by the 'cheaper' allternatives).

Don't think you'll go wrong with the hotel, location is great for skiing access (presuming you're already resigned to using the bus) as the bus stop is just across the road. One morning we walked to the Aiguille du Midi for the Vallee Blanche descent, took less than 10 mins (the walk that is, not the descent). Also really well placed for night time, bang central.

bladeskier, Alpybus will be cheaper than ATS, but possibly less convenient - they run more to a timetable, whereas ATS run something within at most (in my experience) 15mins of the time you want. Those ATS prices are completely OTT, and I guess because you've gone for "private transfers". You don't need that, just go for shared transfers, which will still take you door to door. I take them pretty much all the time, and it normally costs about £57 return per person (so that should be £170 for the three of you). A couple of times my "shared transfer" has been just the driver and me or one other. masmith, prices on that alptransfers site look truly dreadful for low numbers (currently showing €450ish for 1 pax Shocked ) - I don't see any indication on there for a cheaper option.
