Poster: A snowHead
|
Heading to Samoens 7-11 Feb with our 10yo daughter who hasn’t skied before. Any recommendations for ski lessons would be appreciated - I think it would need to be private lessons as the ski school timings don’t work for us?
Also are there generally queues up/down the gondola from the village?
Thanks in advance.

if you have a car, there is vehicle access to Samoens 1600. we did find queues, but since we visited, the other cable car from the valley has been upgraded

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately we wont have a car. Maybe we'll just delay going up until after the morning peak time - book our daughter's lessons for late morning.

I've used ZigZag before for private lessons at Samoens 1600, and they were pretty good.
There was a big queue for the gondola at 9am, but fine after that.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I’ve been to Samoens a few times and I’ve never experienced anything in terms of a queue at GME which has made me baulk. It’s a pretty efficient gondola and the queues shift in good time IME.

Yep we've used ZigZag before too and they were good for our kids.
We normally head up the mountain via Vercland, which never seems to have a queue and also has the advantage of putting you at La Reposette at the end of the day too

if you haven't booked lessons yet you need to get straight onto it as they are normally booked solid in advance for February.
Ski busses around Samoens are plentiful so you shouldn't have any trouble with timing. This year some of them are bypassing the GME and going straight to Vercland. As @porkpiefox suggests it is a nicer way up and down.

+1 and... just me, but I really didn't like the 1600 car parking setup. Seemed like a long walk-around to the lifts. And Samoens has a good free bus too, wheter you're driving or not.

If you have a car then the upload at Vercland can be preferable to either Samoens or Morillon - you do have to drive round (or you can get a bus from the GME) but queues tend to be MUCH smaller

@Charliegolf, I’ll echo that. I really wouldn’t ever bother driving upto 1600 if I visit again. It’s more hassle than it’s worth. I’ve used Vercland a fair bit and probably the longest queue I experienced at Samoens was there one day for some unknown reason but normally it’s good. There’s a new lift in place this year from Vercland which one assumes will be even more efficient.
You have the added bonus of a drink and some great food at La Reposette at Vercland after the last run of the day. It’s well worth a visit.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

The new lift at Vercland was in place last season and it's good.
