Year round skiing is to stop in Sölden, Austria.
The resort previously boasted that it was open for skiing every day of the year at one of its two glacier ski areas, the Rettenbach and Tiefenbach. However the resort has now decided to close the lifts on both glaciers for about six weeks, from mid-May to the end of June.
...About a third of the glacier summer ski areas in the Alps have either stopped offering summer skiing altogether or have reduced their opening times over the past few years. Zermatt in Switzerland is an exception because it returned to year-round opening a few seasons ago, while Val d’Isere have re-opened their summer ski area this year after introducing snowmaking.
