Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Driving to France in Winter - a reminder

his Haute Savoie (74) hire car was not fitted with winter tires this morning

Where did he hire it from? I wouldn't have expected it to have winter tyres, but would expect there to have been chains available.

My son in law has new (well, actually very old) Peugeot Expert van in which 5 of us are driving to the Alps for Christmas. He always took chains for his VW van - we'll need to check whether any of the chains we've got hanging round will fit the Peugeot.

A bit of winter tire action in the Jura yesterday from 700m. Just shows you do need to be prepared.

@pam_w there may have been chains in the boot, he was just grumbling about not being to start his ski tour where he wanted. As he lives in the mountains I was surprised he didn't check everything when he picked it up. It just surprised me that a car hire in the Haute Savoy wouldn't be properly equipped but as you say, chains does their legal duty.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

In my case, LV= just said that as long as replacement wheels and tyres conformed to the manufacturer’s spec (as on the door pillar) I didn’t need to tell them. When I changed to Adrian Flux they said that I did and they regarded it as a modification. So it’s completely arbitrary.

Adrian Flux are insurance brokers (very big insurance brokers!) and not the insurer. They may well be correct in what they have said, but as a seasoned insurance broker myself I have had occasions where I have assisted commercial customers who have been given incorrect advice on their personal policies. Ultimately, the Policy Wording should give the definitive information as to what the insurer considers to be a modification that might prejudice cover. As said Adrian Flux may have given you very good advice, but if you have not already done so it might be worth checking the policy.

Oops- just noticed my post above referenced a post made on 06th November, not today as I thought. Also see that other posters have recommended checking policy wordings - common sense really. I suppose I was just clarifying that Adrian Flux are not an insurance company, and whilst they may well have been right they do deal with a lot of different insurers.
