I skied Lievre to the car park Monday afternoon, didn't go to Morzine after that.

I took the hound out on the lower half of Pleney this morning. They had most of the cannons running around the Fys area (but not the home run from the Fys), and pistes B and D. Piste B is almost complete to the bottom, just the last km or so to finish off.

Any signs of any snow making on the lower slopes?

There was snow making on a lot of the Marvel piste and also in Samoens. I haven't been down to Carroz.
Today was a much better day in the Flaine bowl with good visibility until about midday, when clouds rolled in. The snow was in very good condition and the off piste was very skiable, if a little heavy.

@Chris Mason, how far can you ski back down towards Morillon? Can you get back to 1100m? We’re having a day out there in a couple of weeks.

Arriving Chatel Friday afternoon ski Sat to Wednesday. Thinking get weekend Liberté pass with discount and PDS Mon-Wed. Never skied Torgon, Braitaz, La Chapelle, Abondance. Also never done much Swiss side either. Enough snow to give enough skiing for 2 days on Liberte? I think so but ideas welcome. Thanks

@jonnycox6, you won't get bored or run out of snow in 2 days on Liberte.
Check the status of the link back from Torgon to La Chapelle - hasn't been running although I saw this pm that it was. Apparently the Torgon Area is under new ownership.

@jonnycox6, Liberte is certainly enough for two days. I'd suggest one day Braitaz, Torgon, Super Chatel (if the links are all open) and one day Linga/PLJ. Then use the PDS to go PLJ-Lindarets-Swiss side and a day covering Avoriaz. Final day round the circuit!

Was pretty much what I was planning thanks for the affirmation though! Much appreciated. Would you say bus to Abondance and start there or ski over from Super Chatel. Fancy trying the Barbossine black.
Thanks again Jonny

Abondance doesnt link up at all and is much lower. You can get tot he Barbossine black easily from the top of Morclan so start at Super Chatel for that. It might not be open yet though

@jonnycox6, Careful, Abondance is another place further down the valley with its own, unconnected ski area!
La Chapelle D'Abondance has two ski areas. Cret Beni is standalone but Braitaz is linked to Torgon and then on to Super Chatel. Really doesn't matter where you start from - you can access the Super Chatel - Torgon - Braitaz areas from Gabelou, Super Chatel and Petit Chatel lifts in Chatel and also Panthiaz in La Chapelle.

@jonnycox6, will you have a car? If so you could start your second PDS day from Morgins (using a Swiss side pass) which is around same distance as PLJ. They have replaced the old lift with a state of the art gondola to get you up quickly. We left Châtel on Saturday and there is a lot of snow and nothing to worry about.

Won’t have a car, no. When last here 2020, enjoyed the ski over from Super Chatel towards Morgins but had to go back due to lack of snow. Hoping to be able to get over to Les Crosets Champery. Thanks for the heads up on new lift from Morgins, nice to know.

Great stuff thanks. Yes, been over to Avoriaz but pretty much just went over to Morzine and back to Chatel on same day. Not been up Chavanette either.
This will be my 5th stay in Chatel reckon only skied a tenth max of PDS area.

Just had a look. All the Torgon/Braitaz and Super Chatel lifts are running and runs open today. Only the runs down to Petit Chatel closed (no snowmaking there) - pity as that's where our apartment is!

Does anyone know if I can top-up our PdS passes (first bought in Les Gets 3 years ago) online in Euros (as rate is better than v CHF) even though we will be stying in Champery this time? I'm sure it won't matter unless the system recognises which turnstile you use / go through first?

@franga - if you top up online through the Morzine site you end up paying in Euros. You'll need to create an account if you haven't already got one and then you just add the lift pass numbers as you go through checkout process. https://www.ski-morzine.com/en/
Can't see it being an issue where you jump on your first lift (although I've only ever started from French side) but I'm sure others can confirm.

Any of you weather experts got a sense of forecasts for LG next week ? The snow forecast site keeps changing so much it's practically useless - from snow to rain to snow etc within hours. thanks

Any insight into the Jean d’Aulps loop please? From the app it looks to be impossible at the moment - is that snow limitation or a problem with the Torchon and Folly lift/drag? We’re transferring (by car) between morzine and chatel in a few weeks and would love to tick off Jean d’Aulp on the Saturday.

Sunny and dry weekend on the cards wit the ISO topping up above Avoriaz on Saturday PM ... at the moment, indications are that most of next week will be unsettled. High FL on Monday and Tuesday, which starts to drop from Wednesday.

Snow pandemonium in Geneva and nearby France today - this is supposed to come towards Chablais later on. Swiss transports can't cope with the weather, just like their UK (or French) equivalent.

@franga, Anecdotally it's been said in the past that first use in the country of purchase is obligatory (to stop cross-border speculation on the exchange rate). @Chaletbeauroc, may have up to date info. People have suggested being dropped by car to the required side of the Morgins/Chatel border on their first morning, if you have access to transport. I'd not click that button without confirmation

That’s what my concern is too - I hear you … it will be a very expensive mistake if the computer at the Champery cable car station says non.

@franga,
https://www.skipass-avoriaz.com/conditions-de-vente/
'L’usager devra faire sa première montée sur le secteur français pour les forfaits Portes du Soleil.'
That is a link and a quote from the Avoriaz ticket site. Translation is the user must take their first lift in the French sector for a PDS pass.
The rules are clear but never tried it in practice. Is the difference in price really worth the risk ?

Thank you very much. I think we’d save (family of 4) £100 quid on a 3-day pass which seems odd. But I entirely agree - no point taking a risk.

I had a friend who bought her PDS pass in Chatel last year to save money and I warned her about this issue as she was staying in Champery. She checked and her Airbnb host said it would be fine so long as she collected in Chatel and I’m pretty sure it was fine when her family started their skiing in Champery so I worried her for nothing!

Perhaps the cashier in Chatel validated the pass as soon as she picked it up ... which effectively could have logged France as the originating country.
We already have our cards so this is slightly different.
I am going to email the lift company now to ask - better be safe than sorry.

Magic morning on Mont Chery, very quiet, another 5cm of fluff. Photo doesn’t do the view justice, great viz over towards grand massif and Mont Blanc.
First lift, immaculate virgin coudroy and nice side piste.
That’s me done here for a while, off on a ski holiday next week.
