Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

ARVA Evo 5 strange beeping noise

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hello
Today my transceiver a couple of times made a random beeping noise by the time I could look at it it had stopped and nothing unusual displayed on the screeen. Transceiver was in send mode.
Batteriey was new in today.
Any ideas?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Mine beeps like that if it detects "interference"- crosstalk. So key a VHF radio really close to it, or dangle a powered-on camera near it, something like that. It's one reason I now have my transceiver in my pants pocket, to keep it away from radio and cameras etc.

When it's doing the beeping, you probably have something electric nearby. In every case I had it, that was the cause. It should not be beeping in transmit mode ordinarily; it's of course silent then.

The manual says it should indicate "interference" in the panel when it's doing this, and it doesn't mention the beep. However mine has beeped when such crosstalk has been likely, and I'm sure I've seen it without an on-screen indication. Or at least by the time I pulled the thing out to look at why it was beeping, that indication had gone. I guess you could experiment with a deliberate source of crosstalk and satisfy yourself why it's occurring. My device has performed faultlessly and is way quicker/ better than anything else I've used.

Thanks Phil.
Otherwise it’s fine, I did search and transmit tests and all good

As an update, this happened again. ARVA were excellent. They think it’s the tranciever doing a reset and auto test as it wrongly thinks has been a fall that might have damaged it. I’ve sent it back and they have repaired it. Fingers crossed it won’t happen again

Carbon monoxide in your back pack? Wink

Mrs sev112 and I were on holiday last week in the Canaries for the first time in 20 years without Little Miss Sev112

On one of our calls she said “something is beeping”. Cue half an hour if remotely walking her round the house looking for smoke detectors etc. that’s quite funny from a couple of thousand miles away
