Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Lange Shadow Boots, something new or just marketing?

Lange making some interesting claims about their new boot, really pulled out all the bells and whistles with their (very weird) product launch.

I'm curious what someone with a better understanding of how Ski Boots work thinks of them? Is this really something significantly new or just marketing?

Probably, I haven't seen that 2nd "hinge" point before though, and theoretically it does make sense.

@menatarms, why? my ankle only has one hinge point?

Plus ... if it's that clever why isn't it (and the new canting, & no-one I've ever met ever uses "canting", it's at best a comfort feature) on the race range? If really worth it, it'llbe on the plug boots.

=> marketing puff for the punters.

well they had to do something given the BOA outbreak at Salomon...

The 2nd hinge was for leverage into the heel I think. Yeah fair point that it's not on the race range, seems odd if it really was that revolutionary.

Think K2 have done it too. Is it just me or is the BOA instead of the lower 2 buckles just not a big deal? You can't have a set tightness like you can with a buckle, you have to work it out every time. Also the lower 2 buckles for me aren't hard to put on, it's the upper 2 that are always a pain in the back bottom.

@menatarms, ...yes you are right, they have. And they has relaunched Full Tilt in a pretty unmodified form too (thank goodness, I can now get some spare parts again....)

Ski Essentials have just done a long review of the new salomon BOA boot, very interesting to hear a bootfitter really go into depth about it. Certainly seems like BOA on skiboots is here to stay.

Initially that would seem to be the obvious thing. However if that was the case why would something like heel lift ever happen? Ie the biomechanics of you foot/leg in a boot when skiing seem a bit more complicated than just a simple single pivot.

I think the bike suspension analogy is a good one. You could just have a single pivot (and there are some who like a particular bike brand who would advocate for this! Madeye-Smiley ), but most are multi pivot designs because it gives the engineer more control over how the suspension moves through its travel

I'm quite intrigued about these (more so than Boa), shame they haven't make an xt version (yet), and possibly even more benefits for walking.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

I would imagine soon we'll see a combination of BOA and this double pivot if it lives upto the marketing. I mean from a physics perspective the longer lever and double pivot do seem to make sense for driving more power into the ski. I guess a lot of people won't take them seriously unless they're seen on race boots though, which is fair enough I guess. I'm looking for a fairly precise, stiff boot for next year at the moment, not sure any of the new technology 2024 boots are ticking the box other than maybe the new Fischers.
