Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Have you done Galtiberg before? How many times, how recently?

If not don't even think about doing it on your own, or without a guide or someone else who you trust and who knows it extremely well. There are, snow conditions dependent, at least a couple of places where a wrong turn could lead to a heli-evac if you're lucky, a fatal cliff fall if you're not.

I've done it perhaps five or six times over the years (we had a place there for ten years) and would be very cautious about doing it without a guide (either a proper one or someone who I trusted to be as good as) unless I'd already been down in the preceding days or weeks _and_ conditions were perfect.

Having said that, it's perhaps my favourite of Engelberg's Big Five, lift accessible, stunning scenery, challenging terrain, what's not to like? That beer at the restaurant at the caravan park while waiting for the bus back to the village is one of the best-tasting you will ever find!

Edit: rereading, I realise you most likely intend to get a guide anyway, but perhaps you should clarify for a potential partner's sake.

Me? No. Not lived there for years now. You should be able to see my location on the left of the post, and in my signature. Moved to Morgins five years ago.

Should be epic conditions on Tuesday and a fabulous route in hood conditions: https://fatmap.com/routeid/49045/galtiberg
but my recollection is that the bottom of the Galtiberg is an avalanche debris filled gully. Not sure you’d want to be there after a huge dump with warming temps Skullie . On the other hand the Laub should be superb on Tuesday. The glacier stuff too.

@8611 mentioned heading there in March madness thread. Perhaps you can hook up with him?

Thanks @BobinCH, @jnedic PM'd but unfortunately I didn't get myself together quick enough and missed the window. Am in the market for somewhere later in the week so will be watching the forecast (and the freezing level mainly) with interest to decide where.
