Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Winter Tyres question

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Morning all

Already thinking ahead to family ski trip the week before Christmas 2023 and weighing up fly/car hire options from Geneva and Lyon. At that time of year, winter tyres are a bit of a must-I know they must be supplied in Switzerland which is a + for Geneva, but would they as a matter of course from Lyon? I know in the past the answer was not, but I vaguely remember an announcement a few months ago that France would be making them mandatory during the winter as well?
Cheers.

Lyon is not inside any of the defined areas.

Winter tyres are not mandatory in France. It is mandatory to have winter tyres OR chains in some areas.

Had a hire car from Geneva French side last month and it came with summers. When I questioned it, they said not a requirement but would have been on Swiss side.

I could upgrade if I wanted @€85/day (hire was €112 for week) or buy chains from them. We were going to need them and it was too late to purchase elsewhere so we hot rinsed for them. Then in the car there was 2 brand new sets of snowsocks... they might have all come home with me...

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

If you rented a car for 112 for the week console yourself that it was a super bargain even with the chains costing extra!

Thanks everyone for the quick replies and to @NoDosh, for confirming the defined areas rules.
