I just found out last week in Les Arcs (when trying to rebook him for my son) that my wonderful go-to instructor had died last summer.  I'm in La Plagne in a couple of weeks with my daughter and am interested in any instructor recommendations my discerning fellow Snowheads might have. I don't mind skiing over to Les Arcs for the right person, so if you've ever met a teacher that's blown you away please let me know. Thank you!

We had some really excellent lessons this season from Siân McLoughlin

 Sadly, so long ago, I can’t recall. Sorry. Not much help but as a back up plan, you could do much worse.

Another shout for Sianski. Manages to successfully teach both me and my other half - radically different skill sets and learning styles between us.

Cheers. His website is very slick. It prompted me to notice something that's common to all of the recommendations - afternoon lessons are cheaper than morning ones. Any idea why this is? Worse snow quality maybe?

Not sure abut others, but in Sian's case I think it's just that she does 3 hour morning lessons and 2 hour afternoon ones. Our mixed ability group had various morning and afternoon sessions with her during the week's holiday. Everyone thought she was a great teacher and really easy to get on with.

I usually took afternoon lessons for this reason...Maybe AM lessons are more popular. People are fresher in the morning.
Also, afternoon lessons can be 2 - 2.5 hrs, while morning ones can be 3 hrs....though this may not be the case here.

I also highly rate Sian - taught my son over Christmas this year and was great. Also JP at AIM Snowsports.

Why is he just called 'JP'? I'm not sure whether to be intrigued or slightly put off by a man who doesn't reveal his name on his public facing website. 3 recommendations makes him the leader so far though.

@greengriff, I've known JP for close to 15 years and everyone calls him JP, except for his wife, no idea why. Really nice guy, very good instructor. He does book up though, so advance booking is recommended.

To piggy back on this thread - all very good recommendations but could someone recommend an instructor for private lesson for my OH and a friend? both good skiers and can ski down most blacks - just needed a bit more confidence. Ideally someone who is militant and pushy and will shout at you (not sure if the other instructors suggested are too nice  ) Would strongly prefer ESF in la plagne but would consider others as well.

Brice Lamon is our guy. He's a legend. can find him on instagram as "bricelamonskicoach". All the lift operators and ESF teachers know him as they always shout "Hello" to him as he's coaching us so he's well known and a great guy. Taught my over half from snowplough into parallel and taught me how to 360 jump etc so he can do pretty much anything. He used to be a slalom racer too.
