Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Manchester Airport Travel

Hi All, just wondering how people have found outbound travel from Manchester Airport so far this season. Got an early Saturday flight to Lyon with Jet 2. Do I need to work on 2 or 3 hours prior? Many thanks in advance

Which terminal? I fly from Manchester near weekly for work and to be honest it has been fine recently. Security queues are pretty variable, sometimes fast sometimes a bit longer, but 2hrs should be fine. You could buy fast track for peace of mind if you are worried.

The queue for the Jet2 desk is likely to be the longest bit based on my experiences going on holiday with them...

Many thanks - T2. We do have skis so have to allow time to deposit them as well, always seems like Man Airport are surprised that skiers have skis!!!

No issue with ski baggage through T2 in mid December, but the 5 hour delay due to closure of the airport after 2mm of snow fell in 10 minutes was somewhat disappointing. Our German pilot was not impressed to be told that Manchester "is not a winter airport" and made it very clear to us that they were simply incompetent. Watching the ground crews trying to move slush off the gate stands with a snowplough was entertaining but also a little depressing. Apparently winter weather is a surprise to them, even when forecast 7 days in advance as this was.

Security was OK, check-in with Lufthansa would have been hassle free if the lead passenger had followed the Lufthansa instructions to phone and reserve space for your skis when booking rolling eyes , and access to the gates was quick.

On return, baggage reclaim was a little slow but everything arrived after about 20 minutes, and the skis were delivered on the main belt rather than through a side door.

Well that seems a bit more positive (fingers crossed) than last year, when the check in queue was across the bridge and back to the train station!!!

@Skisue, like I said the biggest queue is likely to be that for the Jet2 checkin... I've been on (summer) holidays with them a couple of times and it's always long and slow moving.

T2 itself has been fine the last several times I have used it. Admittedly usually KLM on weekdays, not Jet2 on a weekend.

Arrived back yesterday with skis to Manchester T2 (on Norwegian) and all excellent. Through customs and got all bags within 25mins. Check-in and Security fine/quick on the way out too. (Much, much better than when I flew in December, and waited a fair bit.)

Flying out of Manchester on the 26th - had a look at the bar prices, £7.50 for a bottle of beer! Managed to get escape lounge access for £23, which has hot food and complimentary drink available apparently, anyone have any experience of this lounge? (T1)

Just back from Innsbruck (yesterday) following a week in Mayrhofen flying in and out of T2. Security and baggage reclaim were a doddle. I've no idea whether we were 'just' lucky but I'd say it was one of our best Ringway experiences ever.

Yes, it's fine, can get quite busy if there's lots of holiday flights departing at a similar time as a lot of people follow your train of thought - I think Aspire (the non-MAG operated one) is marginally better and usually a touch quieter, used that last few times I've flown with Easyjet and AerLingus. However with Skyteam (KLM/AirFrance/Delta/Virgin) status you get the Escape lounge so that's the one I usually end up in rolling eyes

The Escape has a waiter service bar (but self serve coffee and soft drinks). Food is fine although when it's busy it can get low, they're usually pretty good at filling it back up. The main issue with it is when it gets absolutely rammed.

The 1903 is by far the best but obviously costs a lot more - it should come with security Fast Track (or it used to) though. Has a self service bar and better food, also usually a lot less busy.
