Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

How is Skicircus looking at the moment?

Just about to pull the trigger on some mid January flights. Saalbach would be our preferred destination but wondering at the last minute if we should go to Sölden instead. I know a lot can change in 2 weeks but the forecast isn't giving me much confidence.

I have looked at those and although nearly all the lifts/runs are open there's a fair bit of green and brown visible on the webcams - one of the reason I started considering alternatives.

@Snow Hound, I assume that the green and brown patches are in unpisted areas and mainly on lower, south-facing slopes. I’ve been in Saalbach since 11th December. The skiing has generally been pretty good. All links and valley runs are open. Snow cannons are going at full pelt. Obviously there’s no off-piste, but piste management is as usual first class.

@Snow Hound, why would Sölden be better?

@tatmanstours, thank you. Flights booked.

@munich_irish, I haven't been to either area but looking at the maps Sölden has a fair bit of terrain above 2500m where as far as I can see Skicircus has none. I realise there are other factors involved but usually when the snow is poor it's best to go high. I've had a pretty good run of the snow arriving with me on my last 5 or so trips so hopefully that continues.

Solden has a glacier with generally better snow quality, in that part of the resort at least, in consequence

It and obergurgl also a fair bit higher than the average Austrian resort
