Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Where to stay in Zermatt?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Just planning our first time trip to Zermatt and would like some advice on where is best the location within Zermatt.

Obviously it's not a ski in/ski out type place and so looks like there will be some compromises to be made.

Should the strategy be close to either of the lifts as possible? And if so, should it be Sunnegga or Matterhorn Express? I read a few other threads which indicated Sunnegga but to me this looks like the end of the resort whilst ME appears more central which can serve Gornergrat and Italy. The journey to Sunnegga to Italy looks long, although most of the restaurants look closer to Sunnegga.

Or somewhere in the middle of the two, giving options for both lifts?

Or it doesn't matter about lift proximity and get buses/taxis or just walk/storage?

Thanks for the help! Madeye-Smiley

The free bus along the main road between the two is very frequent. So anywhere close to that should be fine.
We stayed at the Hotel Jagerhof https://www.jaegerhofzermatt.ch/ last Christmas and it was a 5 min walk in ski boots to the bus, and 5 minutes to the lifts in either direction. It's also a 5 minute walk in normal shoes into the centre of town. Service was great and we had a Matterhorn view from the room too!

What are the ski buses like? I can't see the winter timetable for those yet, be interesting to see how regular they are

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Ski buses are every 5-7 mins.
I would suggest leaving skis, boots, helmets etc in a locker at the bottom of the lift. You can then walk/get the bus too and from your accommodation in normal shoes which is a game changer. Alternatively if your hiring equipment do so from a shop by the lift. You can the drop the kit back to the shop each evening after skiing.
