Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi all, new member here so apologies if I’m posting in the wrong place. Just wondering if anyone has ever stayed at the TH Pila hotel in Pila, Italy. Have just booked for me and my partner through crystal for second week of January next year but I’m reading more and more reviews stating that the hotel is very family focused with nightly shows that can be a little rowdy and can go on till quite late which isn’t really our scene as we do not have children. Rookie mistake, should have done more research before committing. There are no school holidays that week but I am aware that the resort is popular with school ski trips. Just wondering if it might be worth trying to change hotel before paying the final amount on the holiday to somewhere a little more low key

Rowdy late night shows doesn't sound very "family focussed". I doubt there'd be any school trips in the second week of January.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thank you Pam W. I agree with you. From what I can gather they have a nightly show and/or music act which is geared towards the kids that can go on till 12am which seems strange. Apparently it can be quite hard to get away from the noise and can be heard in most of the rooms in the hotel. Having said that, Pila looks like a nice little resort and we’re definitely looking forward to going

bar, restaurant and entertainment areas are in a completely different area in the hotel to the bedrooms. yes it is a family hotel but i dont think you need to worry too much, I'm sure if you drop the hotel a direct email with your booking reference etc they can arrange for you to be away from the crowds.
Its a super hotel, food is excellent bar prices not too bad (no cash - you need to charge a hotel specific card up to use at the bar) super convenient for the piste its a pretty quiet resort, even as far as the piste side bars close when the slopes do. hence the in-hotel entertainment

@MichLloyd, it’s a great little resort, I’ve not stayed there but have done a few day trips from Courmayuer, it will be very quiet at that time of year, it does have a few school trips that use it, but the mani English one Interski puts all the kids in hotels down in the Aosta valley and they come up on the gondola daily. So a top tip is to get out on the slopes before 9.30 and when ski school starts and you’ll avoid them, and possibly time your coffee and lunch stops to avoid their timings, you will be able to figure it out quickly once there.

@geoffknight, thanks for your help. Really looking forward to skiing in Pila. I think our lift passes give us a day or 2 to explore the wider area so we’ll definitely being heading to courmayeur one day

@Onnem, as I said in my original post, it’s through reading reviews that I learned of the concerns I had with the hotel.

@MichLloyd, if you get the pass with two away days, go to La Thuile also, you can also get access to the Monte Bianco Skyway lift, which on a sunny day is stunning, ski Courmayuer for most of the day then take the lift 2 hrs before it closes if your going to do it.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

@geoffknight, great advice, thank you very much. I’m pretty sure we have the 2 day pass, I’ll look in to it

I didn't know which review site you used.
In my experience, tripadvisor is VERY reliable. You just need to ignore any outlier ratings, lowest and highest 5%.
You can ask your question there too. Nothing against snowheads (opposite) but on TA you will probably get more response because larger number of actual visitors.
