Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski Instruction holidays

Hi wanted to pick your brains please . We've sat out of the last couple of years trips post covid and also our ski group has changed. Having not skied for 3 years we fancy a holiday with ski instruction to get any bad habits ironed out included 0- i know we could do ski school but fancy something a little more personal .We're both level 6 + skiers and are just looking for something a little different before going back to the normal ski group holidays. Any recommendations ?

One of the bashes? You can probably mix and match some group and private instruction sessions with some of the best English speaking instructors out there. Downside of course is the other weirdos you might run into.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Agree - a bash is a good idea. Apart from the formal ski lessons, you'd generally be mixing with other skiers who were interested in technique and keen on improving whereas many "ski groups" just want to hack around. It's true that you have to put up with the weirdos.

If you fancy an early season trip Skivolution weeks in Kaprun are great, excellent instructors, 5 days of coaching, mainly intermediate and upwards - we went for advanced coaching when we were already dry slope instructors.

Not sure I really understand the question, but any ski school worth their salt should be able to find you a private instructor to tailor everything to your needs. Find a location with lots of different terrain and then seek out recommendations on local ski instructors.

+1 for skivolution and I think they do similar at their chalets in Courchevel

I have done a couple of weeks with our own @rob@rar and @skimottaret using their company www.insideoutskiing.com. Would thoroughly recommend.

You could always try one of the weeks organised by Inside Out Skiing. https://www.insideoutskiing.com/holidays.html

I've been on some of their coaching sessions at Hemel with Rob and they've been really good.

+2 for skivolution / skivo2

Have done both the pre-season weeks in Austria and the main season chalet holidays in Courchevel. The pre-season weeks are naturally very focused full day instruction, whereas the Courchevel setup is half day lessons. With both the standard of instruction is very high.

I've not done an Inside Out trip, but have skied with them at Hemel and, again, they offer great quality instruction.

With both these companies you get smaller class sizes and BASI instructors which may give you more of the personal touch you're looking for without shelling out for private lessons. Also don't forget companies like Snoworks, Warren Smith, New Gen, TDC and the many other "British" ski schools out there.

For the same cost of private, many more hours of group lessons can be had.

In North America, we often have a very different way of doing group lessons. Classes are often full day. Typically the morning are spent doing drills and afternoon the newly learned habits (ok, “movements” in technical terms) are taken to various terrains to be ingrained (hopefully).

I’m not familiar with the labeling of what a “level 6” skill level is. But if it anything less than “comfortable in black”, it’s probably a common enough level to benefit from a WELL RUN group lesson. There would be common bad habits that needs addressing by all in the group and often times the student can learn from seeing others making the same mistake. Smile
