@kitenski, next week (28th - 4th) has historically been the quietest week in LG, hence why I’m going then, and I’m hoping it stays true to form.
On the same week in previously years I’ve found myself to be the only person on certain slopes. I remember musing one year, as I was cruising down Cyclamen, not passing another soul, that if I got in trouble, I’d probably die

@kitenski, yep Chavannes express is bad in the morning, and then the 2 in the bowl stayed busy most of the day. I’d expect less of an issue this week, but there are ways to avoid queues. Start higher or go to Perrieres or MC. Chamossiere, Charniaz, Nyon are much less busy than Chavannes / bowl. Drag lifts are under used, there’s a good one from Chavannes 1500m up to Nauchet. In the bowl Rosta is a good escape, and there is also a forest track behind / below the Nauchet lift that brings you back to lower Chavannes. Top tip for Ranfoilly is to join the queue from skiers right as 80% get funneled left. And several options off top of Ranfoilly to avoid going back into bowl.

@Timmycb5, I actually don’t know because I never drop down that far. The access is still there but am not sure if it’s fenced off or not.
If I did happen to be there with a huge queue for 6 man I’d take the red bubble instead and then drag lift to Nauchet

Back in the UK after another Fab Week.
Top tip for any visitors who's accom might have poor Wifi or who dont want to data roam when out skiing/boarding.
Rent a Wifi Box from the tourist office in either Morzine or also avaiable from Avoriaz tourist office. Works out at 7 euro per day or 39 euro for the week and can connect up to 10 x devises.
Me and the Mrs have used these devices many times and they offer fast WiFi (fast enough to stream Netflix in the evening no prob or make 'TEAMS' calls. The Apartment we normally stay in has WiFi but its slow and the Mrs often has to do some remote working.
Also as its a mobile devive, can take it skiing and avoid data roaming charges.
See inks here.....

@kitenski,
One of the 'up and over' chairs in Chatel sector is out of action after a land slide early season. Cant remeber if its the chair called Portes du Soleil or Gabelou.
If doing the 'circuit' this week, I'd suggest that you do the loop in an anti clock wise fashion.This way you are in the sun in the morning... If you did it clock wise you would be in the shade in the morning in the Plaine Dranse/Pre La Joux/Linga section.
If Out of morzine use Super morzine-zore-proclu and then ski to Mossette Chair. From the top of mossette chair loop around to skiers right (more or less around the 'Cookie cafe' then ski a cat track and when the cat track splits head slight right to Gueilly drag lift (Look for signs to champossin at this point)
Coffee stop at the Ferme du Gaby in Chapoussin near the Aigulle des Champeys chair.
from there follow signs to Morgins. Once in Morgins is a free and frequent bus between to the Corbeau chair (You can actually walk across Morgins village but the bes comes every 10 min so dont bother with the walk).
Then from Corbeau Chair in Morgins work yourself to Chatel and ski all the way down to near the base of Super chatel.
Then jump on Navette to linga. If its late in the day or you or your mates are tired stay on the bus to Pre La Joux. (I see your handle says BASI L2 so you wont be tired or late).
You need to make the Rochessons chair at Plaine dranse for 16:30hrs (thats the time it closes in January) to be back in the Avoriaz sector.
Alternative way up from Morzine in the morning is via the 'A' bus to Prodains or 'M' bus to Ardent.

If you start from Ardent you can do the loop either Swiss first (get up to Mosettes or the Lechere/Cases lifts then over to Les Crosets, work your way to Champoussin, Morgins, Super Chatel then bustop Lingha, and ski to Plaine Dranse, over to Lindarets and down to Ardent) or take Chaux Fleurie, ski PLJ and Linga, bus to Chatel centre then Super Chatel, Morgins, Champoussin, Les Crosets and to Avoriaz or Lindarets). Works starting Super Morzine as well but its a bit slow getting SM->Avoriaz

Various times but 0900 main start of lessons and 0930 or1000 for some of the kids lessons but they all meet at the bottom of Pleney (or nearby). Don't think any meet at SuperM.
Various loops and options for dropping over into Les Croset, Chatel etc including the full PDS circuit.

@kitenski,
Ive not done the loop yet this season as Saturday was to my knowledge the first time it was dooable with snow and open lifts.
I have however done it maybe 30+ times and was gonna do it on Saturday just gone (21st) but decided against it as the wind was very high.
I also had to be back in a Geneva Airport Hotel Sat evening and catch a flight Sunday Morning back to teh UK. Dont do the circuit when the wind is high as I've had to turn around before when more than half way around and just caught the chair lift to get back into Avoriaz valley by 1 x min.

@kitenski,
I get ya, we all would prefer to avoid buses but with the chair in chatel out of action they you will deffo have to do at least 1 x bus in Chatel to complete the 'PdS circuit'.
If you do it clock wise via chatel in the morning and then swiss side in afternoon its 1 x bus.
If you do it anti-clock wise its 2 x buses but you will be in the Sunny Swiss in the morning with fantastic views, kick ass quiet piste that are in the sunlight and have just been groomed and will be deserted around Champoussin and Morgins as opposed to skiing in the shade/ice of Pre La Joux/Chatel in the morning.
I also believe the circuit is outlined on the piste maps last time I looked. Its a Franco/Swiss loop where you can circumnavigate from say Avoriaz to les Crossets to Champouusion to Morgins to Chatel to back to your original starting point in Avoriaz.
Enjoy

@kitenski, Depends how far you want to go to the out laying areas or stick to a main loop - there is no official route AFAIK. Couple or itineraries with lots of mileage include:
Morzine > Linderets > Plane Dranse > Linga > Bus to Super Chatel (connecting lift broken) > Chalet Neuf > Corbeau sector to Morgins (you may have to download TS Corbeau) > Morgins > Champoussins > TS Crosets to Champery > TK Rapille > TS Chavanette > Avoriaz > Morzine.
Morzine to La Chapelle (Braitaz) via Avoriaz > Mosettes > Champoussins > Morgins > Chatel Neuf > Barbossine > Torgon > Briataz > Torgon > Super Chatel > Bus > Linga > Plane Dranse > Linderets.

@kitenski,
@kitenski, Yeah once you have made the 16:30 Rochesson chair you then ski down into Les linderets but will be too late to catch the Serrasaux chair you need further down the line to get to 'Super M'.
If you get to linderets earier its either take Linderets Chair or Prolays Chair which will both let you ski directly from them to the bottom of Proclu piste and catch 'Serrasaux' chair.
from the top of serrasaux chair you ski Zore or Tetras Piste to the top of Suoer morzine Telecabin.
In January, Linderets Chair closes at 4pm. Prolays chair at 5pm serrasaux chair at 4:30pm and Super M cable car at 17:15pm (All times are on the PdS App if you have a play around with it).
If you were running late and had made Rochesson by the skin of your teeth at 16:29pm then you can ski from there down and through Linderts to Ardent and catch the Free 'M' bus back to Morzine that would drop you at the suspension bridge next to 'Super M' in town.
In reality to get back to Super M and ride Super M down into morzine town you want to be coming off the top of Rochesson around 15:45pm to get to prolays chair by 16:05pm expecting a 5 min wait at prolays chair and be making Serrasaux by 16:30pm
P.S. 'The Passage' on Tetras Piste just above Super M gondola top station is a nice place for an end of day beer and you can see Mt Blanc on a clear day.

Roc d'Enfer was lovely and quiet today, though the pistes are very hard packed in places (the red under the gondola was rock hard). I quite like hard pack, so not an issue. It's a beautiful, quirky area - I liked the one-way layout as it adds to the sense of travel. Will put more details in the trip reports thread as usual.

I heard that it was high winds on Saturday, which would be consistent with what it was like at Mossettes. Didn't get up the mountain yesterday so dunno if that was still the case.

@andy from embsay,
Last week (I think on on Tuesday 17th) I had skied over to Linga from Prodains.
We Had lunch at Le Shuss down in Linga (good value plat du jour).
Tried to come back via Linga cable car and when we hit Echo Alpin chair it was closed due to high winds.
Lucky we had loads of time and skied back down to Linga, jumped on navette to Pre La Joux and caught Rochessin chair about 15:45hrs.
So yeah, probably was closed again due to high winds.

Interesting hearing all the talk of high winds in various parts of the Portes du Soleil. It was nearly windless in Avoriaz (Thu / Fri), Les Gets / Morzine (Sat / Sun) and Roc d'Enfer (today) - the only noticeable breeze was on Saturday at the tops of two or three exposed lifts - but even then, nowhere near strong enough to shut anything.
Someone said earlier that this type of "bise" wind is very localised, and that certainly seems to be the case. I saw on another thread that Cervinia was 100% closed due to wind for multiple consecutive days, along with closures in many other parts of Italy, so we've been relatively lucky in this part of the Alps. Often it's the other way round!

Spent the day in Linderets and Avoriaz again today. Super snow in most places and only a few scrapey patches on the usual brows.
No wind at all but crispy this morning with about -12c I saw on one lift.
Busy enough around Avoriaz but almost empty in Linderets this afternoon.
Might see about heading over towards Chatel tomorrow and perhaps further. I don't see wind issues in the forecast but happy to take advice from anyone.

Just back from Morzine last weekend after a great week, my first time skiing. I'm not familiar with this forum and I'd sent a message for advice shortly before I went, about 10 days ago. Got lots of helpful replies so this is just a thank you for those that gave advice and provided helpful links. I was advised to book up lessons, and tried to do so but unfortunately everywhere was fully booked, or maybe not open due to the lack of snow initially, followed by whiteouts. Fortunately I picked it up relatively quickly with guidance from friends and family who know the area well, and was mostly parallel by the end of the first day, and managing blues, bar a few hiccups
Got some skiing in everyday despite the blizzards early on, then Wednesday Thursday and Friday were beautiful, can't wait for the next time! Thanks again for the help
