Any recommendations for secret power stashes in LG today? Heading up Pleney and no idea where to go.
I won't tell anyone, I promise.

@elefantfresh, if you are early there will be plenty around.
Am heading to Chamossiere later if the lift finally runs. And obviously any pistes that haven’t opened yet, think Cyclamen? Yeti?

So with Gabor lift closed, would you recommend a day in Chatel or in Morgan’s / Champossin / Le Crosset? Only ever notionally wizz through on the way round. Also need to avoid drags as we have boarders in the group. Many thanks!
Snow and conditions are amazing for anyone asking …

@polo, thanks man. I think we might sniff around Chamossiere. Be great to get on a freshly opened area.

@Shawsy, where are you based? Not much open in Super Chatel yesterday (Conche, Morclan, Chalet Neuf) and doubt there will be more today. Rest of Chatel (Linga, PLJ) all open and good. Not much in Morgins/Champoussin yesterday either.
-10C on the balcony in Petit Chatel at the moment and skies looking clear.

@Ozboy, I know that you were planning to drive the clockwise route round the lake, but in case you change your mind check inforoute74 as the Thonon road was blocked by a fallen tree yesterday.

Based on Morzine, but we’ve don’t Morzine Les Gets for the past couple of days and want to stretch out …

@Shawsy, I’d suggest bus to Ardent and up from there. Gives the option of Avoriaz, Les Crosets or over to Chatel (Plaine Dranse/Linga). All worthwhile.

Thanks for the to but still planning to take Swiss route. I’ve discovered the reason we were re-scheduled for such a late arrival is due to France’s day of strikes including air traffic controllers.

Obviously cannons will run all week on any areas that neeed it. Local view is base will last to end of March even without more snow.
The riskiest part of the season is behind us.
And the end of month reload continues to load, albeit leaning east

Liking the sound of a bit of a top up at month end.
My mate and co-owner is currently turning into Mr Very Angry-Who-Texts-Entirely-In-Capitals as Manchester has closed both runways for 3mm of snow - is on the 0815 to Geneva.

@Ozboy, shes doing Avoriaz today and super chatel area tomorrow apparently.
I'm out 1st-4th Feb in Morzine, do folk reckon I need to book any of these for evening food/beers?
Bec Jaune
L'Etale
La Rotonde.

@kitenski, Possibly all 3, depends on how busy town is and which night (l’Etale is always bonkers on chalet staff night off, and we’ve got a table of 12 booked on 2/2!). L’Etale and Rotonde are pretty much the same menu (l’Etale seems to have a better veggie/vegan selection than it used to) and both have a decent online booking system. Have never booked the brewery as we just tend to pop in for a beer.

Ah @kitenski, you took the plunge on Morzine, well done. Looking to book for 4th Feb but I still cant make up my mind between Morzine and Serre Chevalier.......anyone got a view on Le Sporting in Morzine?

@RetroBod, I actually stayed there in summer about 8 years ago and it was very nice.
Amazing conditions off Chamossiere and Nyon today, 50+ fluff, hooked my kid up with the local off piste guru and let them do the more extreme stuff. I’ve gotta save myself for incoming visitors.
They came down this, off the top ridge

Le Sporting was great when I stayed there in the summer about 6 years ago. I would not hesitate to go back assuming there have been no changes.

@snowfraise, honestly I barely let my own kid go with him, you’d need to be very experienced and have avi gear.
Anyway he (Matt) doesn’t do requests really, often gets asked in the bar to guide people but he prefers it alone.
And off piste snow conditions likely to be different next week

@andy from embsay, looking at the picture, safer line is down the left, the section to the right (of pic) prone to sliding

Once it slides, yes. Someone had cut a line right across the middle (after pic) and it didn’t go, but I don’t like the look of it

That’s the thing too at the moment when lots of snow comes in a short time onto nothing/not a lot, makes it even more likely for full depth slab avalanches to occur.

A very fine day out. 0930 start and over to Lindarets, then up Mosettes and down to Les Crosets and Planachaux following the sun. Coffee at Le Toupin. Then a hoot off Pauvre Conche off piste. Lunch at Abricotine. Back over to Plaine Dranse and a few runs round there.
Snow squeaky first thing, deep where not pisted (up to thigh deep) and only a few scraped bits later on.
Sunny all day but cold. -12C first thing, didn’t seem to warm up much. Looking forward to more of the same tomorrow

Yup. Far left (left of the snowmaking pole) Roland Baud, a pisteur, was taken out in a huge slide whilst doing avy patrol. He had dinner here a few days before . Nyon is tricky, it's got to be super-stable all around before even thinking about it.

@RetroBod, are you talking about the hotel? We stayed there a few years back, it was fine. But not better than thousands of other 2*-3* hotels all over France.

Out of curiosity, with the earlier comments around the building costs of snowmaking, are they pumping it out now we have a likely stretch of cold temps but limited precipitation?
Cheers
