Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Tremendous all out go where yous like and make the most of the offerings. Fresh tracks in April with sunny strides in the British blue. This is what dreams are made of up top and the valleys can take a break from our thoughts. Comeuppance is best served after a epic yompslide.

Should have shared this before, but in Episode 173 I spoke with Blair Aitken about his magnificent short film '10 in a Weekend', exploring the best and the highest of Scottish backcountry. You can listen here (or wherever you download your podcasts)

Latest GFS run is below average throughout for the Central Highlands! Probably only CairnGorm likely to see meaningful snow as it has the height and exposure to the Moray Firth, while the Lecht lacks the height (though it can come back from nothing to open in early May).

Given the closed system rules you would think CairnGorm would seek to keep the Ptarmigan Tow going till the absolute bitter end, but they don’t need coin in the till to pay the wages at the end of the month.

We have been doing lots of hill walking across the Highlands, very few small snow patches seem to be left. Really reduced over the last 2 weeks.

@mountainaddict, You really need to join Facebook as I think you would like this site, it shows someone managing a mid summer ski on Lochnagar, it is also on Twitter if you use that.

I know, I know! But I really struggle to get past memories of people I worked with going on like "Did you see on Facebook that:
- Fred lost his house keys last night...
- Fiona got two new tyres for her car...
- Billy posted photos of his stuffed peppers starter..." Laughing

@mountainaddict, It was a guy I used to work with posting "Mmmm, pizza and beers on a friday night - theres nothing better" that did for me.

This was alongside a picture of a 6 pack of Peroni and a *#!!ing Dominoes Pizza !!

I decided that I couldnt allow my brain to be turned into mush and killed it off.

@GreenDay, @mountainaddict, I agree that Facebook can be annoying, I don't think you have to give a lot of information to join, you don't have to accept any friends and just follow the sites you want to. I have blocked my sil and her husband could be next, despite repeated request to stop sharing annoying information she didn't, I haven't blocked her husband yet so I have some contact but I find blocking the sites and people he shares works for me. FWIW if a company has a facebook page you don't necessarily have to be a member to view it depending on their privacy options.

@mountainaddict, How is Mrs Mountainaddict recovering from her injury, hope she will be able to go skiing next winter.

According to a post on Winterhighland there has been a lot of good work this summer up at Glenshee. Quite a few of the Poma drive stations have been restored with new motors, new electrics and probably newly galvanised steelwork. The bullwheel at the top of Butcharts tbar, one of the original skilifts installed 61 years ago, has been completely refurbished.
This kind of in house Restoration work is excellent value for money and keeps all the spending, skills, learning and detailed knowledge within the local area….in fact the opposite of what has been happening with the Cairngorm funicular rolling eyes

Glenshee has earned itself some luck this winter. Cool

Apologies @larry1950 - I only just saw your kind enquiry from months ago. After having screws put in the break, Mrs MA's rehab and recovery is still ongoing. It's been a really tough time, both physically and mentally. She was virtually immobile for a couple of months (bed moved downstairs into the dining room for weeks; pushed round Tesco in a wheelchair etc) and effectively had to learn to walk again. Regular physio is ongoing and the good news is her knee and ACL appear stable. She can walk 5 or 6 miles on the flat but is still to avoid too much pressure on downhills. Her knee is not yet bending enough to cycle - we're to see the specialist soon about that.

We remain positive and hopeful but wouldn't like to put a timescale on a skiing comeback.

Having been unable to do our usual skiing, mountain biking and mountain hikes together, we've had to make do with flat walks to keep up Mrs MA's fitness. (I've been getting out on my mountain bike as well.) On a positive note, after booking a cruise in July, we visited some lovely places that we otherwise may never have seen - eg Amalfi Coast, Pompeii, mountains of Corsica (there's skiing there!) and Sicily. We're off on another cruise at the weekend (La Rochelle, La Coruna, Bilbao etc) so looking forward to that.

Good to hear that Mrs M is recovering, it sounds as if she has had a really tough time with more to go, when you are laid up for so long you really lose your fitness fast so I think its great that she is walking 5-6 miles even if its only on the flat. Enjoy your cruise.
