Morning all,
Am I mad to consider Chambery for 1st week in April? I'm aware the location is susceptible to weather issues, but would be April be a decent bet?
Southampton to Chambery on the early flight (7.30am) is a decent price for me, and I'm under 30 mins to Southampton.
Alternative would be Heathrow to Lyon (7.50am). Similar price but Heathrow is closer to 2 hours from me.
Either way I'd hire a car, and this is pretty similarly priced too.
Cheers

There is normally weather induced chaos at Chambery 2 or 3 days a season, or about 40 flying days. But it is normally better in Spring than mid winter, but no promises!

@SHAP,
I flew into Chambery last season at the end of March and it was absolute chaos. The weather was fine but the airport was a complete mess.
Once we landed we waited nearly 2 hours to get through security and then on the way home we couldn't get through security as they already had too many flights waiting in the departure lounge.
Can you not try Grenoble? I've found it was cheaper but that was from Gatwick.

Chambery is always either the best airport in the alps or the worst. When everything works it's so close to the resorts the transfer is brilliant. As you know though, it suffers from overcrowding and bad weather problems. Bear in mind the end of the 1st week in April is Easter so you might have a crowd of people arriving for easter as you're leaving...

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I have flown to Chambery many times, over many years and only had weather related issues twice.
However, it is a chaotic airport that is much too small for the amount of flights it handles. Arriving is somewhat chaotic, with a lack of trollies and a wait for the luggage carrousel. Departure is worse - totally crowded, long queues for check in, not enough seats and crowded restaurant.
I haven't used it since Brexit, so don't know how this effects security delays.
If you are prepared to accept this in order to get a shorter transfer and cheaper deal....then you should be fine. If you can get a good deal to an alternative airport, I would consider it.

If I ever get the option I avoid Chambery. Any time you save on transfers will be lost in delays. The airport is always oversubscribed resulting in huge queues and chaos. AVOID

Thanks all. Driving may be on the cards now, but I'll keep this info in mind.
