Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Val on World Cup week

Hi Snowheads, thinking of heading to Val/Tignes mid Dec when the mens World Cup is on. Appreciate La Face will be shut but will the rest of the resort be open, snow permitting?
What’s the atmosphere like in town at that time?
Thought it would be cool to watch some serious skiing while getting a bit of snow time myself

Watched Dave come down the Face last December and very good fun it was too. It was busy around the bottom of the bubble but skiing elsewhere was unaffected. The women's DH was more of a problem as it shut the main run to La Daille. Most people are not interested in the racing and I was the only Snowhead there, I think!

I watched the women's for me it seemed like a wasted few hours of ski time. lot of standing about for very little action seen. Kitzbuhel in the other hand looks something else

The womens World Cup isn’t coming to Val this year. First time in a couple generations or more this hasn’t happened. So it’ll just be the Mens. Atmosphere is good at bottom face on race days. The resort isn’t really affected run / lift closure at all so it’s pretty much business as normal bar the face itself for the race.
