Thanks all for the useful info.
I’ve stayed in 1600 and 2000 several times and also La Plagne but never Vallandry.
I was about to say ‘see you there’ on Sunday at La Foret. Still awaiting confirmation from Ski Olympic. Maybe they suddenly sold out or their Doncaster office doesn’t open on Fridays?

@anarchicsaltire, phoned several times today after emailing early this morning. Tried to confirm room offered last thing yesterday. Left voicemails but no response yet,
Very unusual in my dealings with Ski Olympic over last 20+ years.
Hope nothing serious amiss.

After a cloudy foggy but snowy day yesterday with visibility in the poor to non existent range, we wake this morning to blue skies and sun shine. Long may it continue.
As to be expected with poor conditions the slopes and lifts yesterday were not busy, suspect today will be a little more crowded. Snow at 10.30 was soft, but not claggy , by three it had softened a bit further, but could not be described as spring conditions. With the sun today, this may change!

@Arctic Roll, When I looked at the livecams yesterday it looked as if it was raining, but looking at the Combettes livecam this morning the snow looks in excellent condidion. For a while there was not a single person in view
Looking forward to seeing for myself next Monday.

So Monday was indeed glorious, with a fresh 7-10cm overnight freshening up the pistes and bluebird skies. But mid afternoon was definitely spring skiing with anything below Derby hard work. The 2000bowl held its own, and we were still out at 16.30 enjoying soft but not claggy stuff.
1600 straight after lunch was ok, although the snow is behaving badly in that it grips the skis, then 5m later it lets you slip, then grabs again. You have to be aware that it’s isn’t smooth running all the time. (Of course, it may be that the skis need a little TLC… although they ran fine down Arondlieres in the pm so I’m going to blame the snow)
The pistes are not wearing through, except perhaps on the long reds like Aigle, which are usually the first to go. Even there they are still snow covered, but beginning to show signs.
Crowds not too bad : queues at the usual bottlenecks like Arcabulle, but everywhere else only a few people in front of us, and even Varet afternoon no need for the fast pass. (Will admit it was crowded in the morning, with queue at fast path as long as ‘plebs’ ) .
And never seen a queue like at the Bulle as we enjoyed the deckchairs for an early apres genepi and rum baba. Took at least ten mins to get served, queued out the door.
High clouds this morning, expecting another warm one. Update: R Les arcs forecast this morning17 at 1000 m, 6-9at 2000. Ooooh. Too warm.
A demain.

Hi all,
I have travel insurance sorted but my travel companion does not. They would like the Carre Neige. Where in Arc 1800 can you buy this from? Can you buy it as a stand alone item from a liftpass shop or where sells it? They already have their lift pass as that was provided by travelski. Thanks

They should be able to take their pass to the lift office and pay the additional fee for Carre Neige.

Am told by those who ventured out that it is " like glass at the top of Arcabulle and Varet." Freezing level coming down, as it is now sleet mixed with snow ( and then back to rain for a few minutes) so with luck for you new arrivals, it will at least still be white when you get here.
OH - back to snow as I look out the window...
@Macker13, that sounds a good way to spend the day!

@Macker13, if you haven't used the snow train before try to take a pillow/neck pillow, eye mask and ear plugs (unless you've got Premium Standard seats - in which case they should give you an eye mask and ear plugs + socks).
Plus if Premium Standard or above you will get food on the train and tea + coffee and maybe even wine!

Thanks v much, yes 8th time on the snow train. Gone Premium too as it’s always worth the extra.
Usually take a pillow but bloody forgot to pick it up as left the house. Gonna buy a travel one in St Pancras

@Macker13, well worth picking one up - it was our first time last year and that would have helped a lot.
Premium - definitely worth it, as you get decent food and drink onboard so not scrambling to find something in the shops etc...
Very envious! Enjoy. We're going out the week after next.. Can't wait!!

Snow overnight last night and currently light snow in 1800. I suspect this will turn to drizzle as the day warms up. But the sprinkling during the night will help

Snow quality is varied across the resort. Up high it’s dry and excellent powder. Skiing the Renard and Reches was good fun today with such lovely fresh powder. Further down as you head back, the snow is wetter and has packed tight so is quite icy. Then as you get lower it gets slushy.

Hi, I'm looking for suggestions for a good ski instructor or at least a good ski school which you have never been let down by. We'll be at Arc 2000 so lessons would either start from there or at 1950. My wife would need someone with an interest not only to help her perfect her skiing but also possibly have some ideas as to why her style of skiing is leading to her knee swelling after some hours of skiing. Doctors just cannot explain it and yet it happens each time she skis, which has made her lose confidence. I'm hoping a good/curious-minded ski instructor could hopefully be able to provide some clues after he can directly identify her problematic skiing biodynamics.

Thanks. But, I had a look and to be honest not sure this would really be the profile. His interest seems to be much more geared to working with advanced skiers and hors piste. We'd need someone focussed on confidence skills and trying to address that something or another that is causing her knee to swell (seeing that it doesn't seem to be knee damage according to doctors). But maybe you can share your experience to contradict this feeling I have?
