Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Getting from Lyon to resort late Saturday

Poster: A snowHead
Is this possible? I've booked a flight for next February arriving in Lyon at about 6pm, so will likely not be out of the airport until at least 7.

I didn't realise shared transfers don't run this late, so am stuck! I would rather avoid paying an extortionate price for an earlier flight; is there any way to get from Lyon airport to resort at this time other than a private transfer? This is not economical as I am travelling alone.

Any resort with a UCPA centre is acceptable, as I will be staying at one. For my week, this includes Val T, Tignes, Val d'Isere, Serre Chevalier, Chamonix, and Argentiere (all miles away....)

To get from Lyon to Bourg-St-Maurice or Moutiers seems it would take 2-3 changes and many hours at that time, I'm not sure if there is usually a more direct route.

E; this is using current timetables, times for Feb 2023 are not available as far as I can tell.

Perhaps:
Tram from airport to Lyon Part-Dieu station (30 mins?)
Train to Moutiers (3 hours?).

Probably too late for a connecting bus to VT, so taxi or find cheap lodgings and get a bus in the morning.

The other alternatives you have listed are probably going to take a lot longer to get to.

Would there be a train to Moutiers from Lyon? What is the route? Google is not helping me Puzzled

In the winter there should be direct trains from Part-Dieu. Not sure when the last train is, or when timetable is published

Might be worth talking to Action Outdoors, both about your UCPA booking and the transport alternatives. It's a long shot, but they might be able to help.

The alternative is £200 to change to a flight arriving at 11:30; comes down to whether that is worth avoiding the hassle...

Direct trains to Moutiers would be good however, but if a taxi from Moutiers is going to cost the best part of £100 anyway, it's not much of a benefit Confused

I've taken a direct train from Lyon to Moutiers on a Saturday afternoon, but at about 4pm.

You need Lyon Part-Dieu station, in the city centre, not Lyon-Satolas (which is the airport station). And Moutiers-Salins-Brides-les-Bains (not the Moutiers somewhere else in France).

Thanks for the help everyone, I've decided to just bite the bullet and pay for the flight change. I've been stressing over this for a while and would rather have the peace of mind with an easy prebooked direct transfer earlier in the day from Lyon Toofy Grin

Should've considered this before booking but oh well! Only £25 change fee, most is just the cost of the more expensive convenient earlier flight.

@Labby43, some suggestions:

The 20:?? train from the airport has a single change at Chambery, and gets to Bourg st. Maurice about 0:30 from there a taxi up to Les Arcs is about 50-60€. Considering there is a huge modern station at the airport - it is barely used so there may be an earlier train from Part-Dieu.

Try BlaBlaCar nearer the date

Before spending £200 changing the flight what about more like £50 for a cheap overnight hotel in Lyon and the earliest shared transfer you can get in the morning?

Is there any particular reason nobody's suggested car rental so far? I know it's not normally economic for a solo traveller, but it looks like it could be as low as gbp200 for a week in Feb, so cheaper than changing the flight, petrol cost would be similar to or less than a group transfer.

Ibis Budget at the airport and an early transfer?

I did consider this but arriving middayish Sunday would be quite disruptive for UCPA - I wouldn't meet my roommates first night and would miss out in nearly a day of skiing.

The original flight was extremely cheap so an extra £200 is not as extortionate as it looks - my flights are now just over £300 return with bags. Not great, but I can handle it. Embarassed

I may also be joined by someone else now, so can direct them to book flights without the stress of an unknown transfer or booking extra hotel stays etc
