Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

With all this fresh snow I thought I would take a quick look. Meteo France got the forecast wrong, or back to front, with sun in the morning instead of the bad weather they had forecast... getting cloudy later on

It is hard work making tracks in 30cm of fresh powder. It was extremely light, as you see in winter but pretty much unexpected for June. Underneath the last few days of serious artic weather had frozen the base solid. No chance that the two would stick.

Another person with the same idea

The Iron Man, frozen to the spot. That must explain why the mobile phone network was out for the area.

The lighthouse. Watch-out, submerged rocks under the sea of powder

A difference of opinion as to which way was best

You zig, I'll zag

I had originally planned to do a tour by the south-faces but it was absolutely freezing at the summit with a strong north to north-west wind. This was moving a lot of snow onto the lee slopes and despite the solid base I wasn't too keen to ski them. Statistically 20% of avalanche deaths occur in the summer season although normally at altitudes above 3000 meters. The icy base was also not very pleasant when climbing as the fresh snow was not sticking well. Four climbers have died in the French Alps slipping this week... on some fairly standard routes.

I was seriously considering getting a flight to Zurich for this weekend. Apparently they've had more than a metre at Engelberg. Unfortunately, although the lift is open for pedestrians, there is no guarantee for skiers Mad

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

davidof, good photos and not really jealous at all, more like seething. That first picture looks very steep too and normally pictures tend to flatten.
