Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

@ster, I really don't understand what they mean in statements like this

"Lens Categories - The most common lens colour (tint) is Brown, this is because these lenses (along with Grey and Green) are 'colour neutral', that is they cut down on overall brightness without distorting colours thereby accentuating relief."

From one of those links, grey is the only neutral there as far as I understand it. Green will exclude red and blue light (and why it looks green) with brown really a dense yellow, and excluding blue light.
I wonder what they mean by that sentence.

You may get a completely different effect from sun lens in green comparison to red for example and depending on eye sensitivity.

@ski3, even more confusingly as the brands don't go out of their way to tell you what the base tint is and for some lenses the "colour" may be more cosmetic than functional e.g. this Smith guide says that red, green and violet lenses share a brown base tint. While Smith themselves don't seem to publish this.

@ski3, no. Sorry, not sure what they mean by that particular bit but I think the list itself is quite useful. But drop them a line, they might clarify/change as appropriate.

The XM Flight decks arrived, very pleased with them. Field of view is a little smaller than I thought, but even these look fairly huge on my face tbh and only just fit my old Giro helmet. Did occur to me they do slightly make you look like a giant insect perhaps more than the desired fighter pilot; closer to The Fly than Top Gun.

Lens is a little darker than I thought in colour, but hard to tell these things in UK May weather. Itching to try them out on some snow now, will have to be patient. Might do some glacier skiing this summer, will see how they do on what I imagine will be some sunny days in Italy.

The Prizm lenses - that are not the storm lenses - have quite a low VLT - but in use on the mountain, seem to highlight contrast in a way that works just fine. It's why the likes of Torch has such versatility and can cope with a wide variety of light conditions.

Good, I had a think about it and tbh I'm probably too lazy to be changing lenses frequently, and would always be worried about damaging a spare lens I'm carrying in my jacket (don't wear a backpack usually).
