Does any of you have tested the Mammut Drytech material? how does it compare to Goretex?
reason for asking is that it seems only Mammut makes a shell/jacket with all the attributes i want (2 handpockets + chest pocket(s) + snowskirt (better if removable) + sleeve pocket (better forearm than shoulder))
So far i saw the Sidewinder is the only one in the Arcteryx line. Then i checked also Norrona, looks great but it doesnt have all requirements

I havn't tried Drytech, but I have used Sympatex, which is a very similar fabric (might even be the same fabric rebadged?)
It's a three layer hydrophilic fabric, so in theory it should be similar in breathability to Goretex Pro in dry weather, and more breathable in the rain (this is due the the way it moves water vapour by passing it along the membrane's molecular chain, rather than moving the water vapour through tiny holes). In practice I couldn't tell the difference between Sympatex and Goretex, I suspect the same will be true of Drytech.
(Compared to the more breathable versions of Goretex (Goretex Active) I would expect Drytech to be less breathable, but warmer and more windproof. Fabrics like Goretex Active aren't usually used in ski jackets though, so this comparison is a bit irrelevant).
If you are open to suggestion, I think you are going about your shopping the wrong way. In my experience it is better to concentrate on finding a jacket that fits, as at a given price point the performance of different membranes is similar, and you will soon adapt to different features. In contrast, a jacket that fits poorly will always perform badly and look a mess.

what about durability though? i have seen Mammut Drytech but it looks much softer than Goretex and more prone to cuts

It's hard to talk about durability in a general sense, because Gore supply membranes laminated to a vast number of different face fabrics. Some of these face fabrics will be more durable than the fabric on the Mammut jacket that you like, and some will be less durable. Despite the variation in look and performance, they will all have a Goretex membrane and a Goretex label sewn to them.
If durability is a big concern then Goretex Pro uses one of the more abrasion resistant face fabrics.

@lorcar, I have a dry tech soft shell - sweat bucket I am afraid, like the terrible black diamond b-dry non-breathing ‘breathable’ membrane. This is five years old so may have been sorted, but other brands (eg millet using wind stopper) much better.

Have you looked at the Sweet Protection Monkeywrench jacket, seems to tick almost all your boxes? I have one that I got from Sportpursuit and can't complain. Seems like they still have them, only in a couple of colours but for less than £200!

goretex is overhyped and overpriced, the reason it does so well is because it is well marketed, but there are many cheaper options from branded companies which are just as good.

@lorcar, my OH bought a Mammut dry tech shell jacket for alpine hiking in, we reckon, 2014. Sorry to say it's been a massive disappointment. Lovely looking jacket, well featured and looked nicely made and finished. Essentially it wasn't waterproof in anything more than a light shower from day one, and it only got worse as time went on. About a year ago the internal taping on the seams started to peel off as well.
Maybe they're better these days but I wouldn't risk it.
@compostcorner, we have goretex jackets of the same age and older that are still perfectly functional, so your sweeping generalisation in no way chimes with our experience.

Hi @lorcar, I have Mammut Drytech ski pants.
They are great to wear, comfy well made.
The colour is terrible though, its a sort of dirty mustard/olive.
I must admit I bought them in TKMax for £99.
So at that price they were a bargain.
I'd love to get a Ski Jacket of the same material but I have never found one.
They are my back up pants, as my favourites are a vintage Degre 7 pants in a cool purple.
