Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Replacing Black Pearls

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
My daughter, 17, has had her Black Pearls for 4 years now, 88mm width. We ski a lot, the edges are getting thin, and the top sheets is knackered. She likes off piste, trees, and fast on piste. She finds them a bit flappy at speed.

Before I get her another pair, any suggestions for alternates?

There's very few skis that'll out perform the Black Pearls in that market position. If she's finding them flappy at speed then go up a length (what length is she on and how tall/heavy is she?) or switch to the stiffer mens/unisex model, the Brahma.

I’ve skied all over this winter on Salomon Stance 88W. They replaced my old 2017 Blizzard Brahmas which I loved till they started to fall apart (the “mens’” variant of the Black Pearl). The Salomons feel quite similar-in as far as one can tell after a 2 year gap- quite stiff, grippy, but are lighter. I’ve used them on and off piste, a bit of touring too (with shift bindings). Might be worth a look.

Funnily enough Mrs SL, who has two pairs of BPs (one with touring bindings) and has sworn by them for a few years, was today testing a pair of next year’s Elan RipStick 88s and was totally seduced by them. Tested them both on (rather soft) piste and spring snow and really loved them. Apparently we now have to get a pair.
