Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Skiing from cervinia to zermatt tomorrow- advice

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hello!
Staying in cervinia and having a lovely time.
We are a family of 5 with 14,12 and 9 year olds. All good skiers and can manage all reds, and even the 9 year old occasional blacks if not moguls.
We want to ski over to zermatt tomorrow and would love some advice about best runs. Not bothered about seeing zermatt village. Have heard good things about the sunegga quarter but that looks a long way. How far can you get (and back! ) in a day? For reference my 9 year old takes about 15 mins to get from the top of the 3 chairs - theodulpass- back to plan maison.
What time do we need to be on the lifts to get safely back to cervinia?

It's been a very long time (10+ years) since I was there but they had signs at the bottom of most of the lifts in zermatt saying something like "last lift to Cervinia xxx" with the timings being reasonably conservative.

In terms of sunnega I would just work my way over that way and see how far you get.

You might get some ideas from this recent thread: https://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?p=4958372
But it sounds as though you don't need to be concerned about the return from Klein Matterhorn, which can sometimes be a bit tricky for nervous intermediates.
It's quite a long way to Sunnegga and back if you're starting in Cervinia!

To get to Sunnegga either involves a lot of lifts and skiing or getting across the village. Either way I think it’ll be tight and you’d be clock watching all day

You could ski across to Trockner Steg and Furgg and then ski or download to Furi and take the gondola up to Riffleberg and Gornegrat. Loads of intermediate runs and classic views of the Matterhorn.

Luckily the new Klein Matterhorn gondola seems to have zero queues this week.

Either way - enjoy!

We've done it both times we've been to Cervinia (1st time with a 6yr old at the end of 1st ski hol so not the fastest) and have done what Tommy suggests -Furi / Riffleberg and Gornegrat. I think we started making our way back up about 2/2.30pm from memory and it was fine. As others have said, just keep your eye on the signs.

Thanks for tips! We are here now and it’s awesome.
Not going to make it to sunegga. There is enough on the nearer side
