Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Kids GS racing skis

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hello all-my son has been doing some ski racing this season. The skis I have had for him so far have been more all-mountain than racing specific. That said, eh has held his own against some excellent club skiers. He has his last race coming up, and I'd like to give him the best opportunuty to do as well as he can because he's had a bit of a poo-poo time of it lately. I want to hire some GS skis, but racing is not my forte! He is 136 cms tall (age 9 and skinny), Can you recommend a ski and the best length?
thanks!

@L_555, As a race coach, I wouldn't change any bit of equipment just before a race.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@L_555, at 9 and skinny, assuming this is a French kids GS style course like a Flèche (I.e. tight!), he might find GS skis slower than his existing ones. At that age mine were generally winning their age categories on SL or hybrid skis.

If this is in chamonix, and you can leave it a week (until 3rd April onwards) then you’re welcome to give me a shout and borrow some. I have some dynastar 140cm hybrids (I think a team pro) and SL and GS covering 125 to 165.

Thanks very much for your advice- ibviously, they would have been for training on, not just using for a race. That would be like entering a marathon wearing new shoes!
Thanks very much snowdave- we are, as you say, sticking to the current ones- they seem a bit light compared to pure SL, so we'll have a look at alternatives for next year!

@L_555, If you/he want to take it more seriously next year then it could be worth going down to Ski Clinic in Cluses to ask their advice.

Manufacturers have tables of what weight of child the different sizes of race ski are designed for.

Ski Clinic also do buyback of skis that they have sold, then service and resell them, they will start getting them in soon or may have some in stock.
