Nope, they are just getting brazen, lots of sightings in the area lately. Although this one is adopting a submissive posture (tail between legs, curling bottom downward) as it sees the Pisten Bully as a dominint creature and does not wnat to wee wee it off.

Where was it, I couldn't quite locate the video? Possibly the golf course area at the bottom of the Mont d'Arbois gondola.
I think this is the second wolf sighting reported here over the winter, with at least one other last winter. While they were previously thought to be roaming from Italy I wonder whether there is now a local pack.

Wolves reappeared on the Northern side of the Valais around 2010, probably from the re-introductions across in Italy. After a number of Valais cattle killed in a rather horrific way, there was a local cull. Not sure what my position is on that, even now. Prior to lockdown I had to walk some meds up to a chalet at 2100m…about a 4km steep rapid hike. It was summer twilight when I started, and getting really dark as I walked back down. I could see perfectly - Alpiglow and headtorch. But as the really black darkness descended I suddenly remembered the possibility of wolves and really got the willies. Irrational, due to the low incidence of attacks on humans, but was quite gripped…and glad to get back to the Jeep at Marollires.

The thing about wolves is very deep in our psyche. Most of us have never seen one, and never will, but..... it's still there. My very sweet Italian grandson is called Lupo - though that's not recognised as a respectable name in Italian, unlike German, where Wolfs are all over the place. The maternal grandfather of two of my grand-daughters was a German called Wolf.

There's something cool about a wolf though - a bit of rough?

Thanks. Looking again, the skyline is the giveaway it wasn't at the bottom - but I obviously concentrated on the wolf.
At least well away from human habitation (apart from one mountain restaurant, which I assume is not lived in).

The tiny dogs in designer carry cases in Megeve are hilarious. A few years ago a Russian lady gave us hers to hold in the pizzeria while she ate her pizza.
