Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Due to be potentially visiting Zermatt in May for a 2 day classroom theory course as part of my IASI qualifications. Have been looking in to travel as I want to get a train there and possibly back, but how can you choose train when this is the flight alternative!?

Train would be ~£250 return.

You’re right, it’s absolutely crazy the level of subsidy for flights when we know the likely cost of the externalities.

@Kramer, i'm going to train it over, purely because I want to give it a try, and Bristol flights don't tie in for me, but I can't justify the time and money to come home on the train, not vs that ^^^

I prefer the train and it’s much more civilised IMV.

I just wish it made financial sense too.

Planes have to travel FULL for the economics to work, so they sell the last tickets at ever reducing prices. The cost of a train ticket is 75% tax/social costs for the workforce/etc

It's not just financial. Even accounting for check in time flying is often significantly quicker. Also plenty of train routes require changes, which is a bit of faff/hassle - especially if lugging about ski equipment.

It doesn't seem like that's the case. For long haul flights buying a couple of months before departure is nearly always cheaper than buying within a week of departure.
