Poster: A snowHead

Hi all
Driving to Austria and I just wanted clarification that if transiting through Germany we don’t need to do anything…..we have 3 x under 12 year olds and two fully vaccinated adults.
Has anyone done this recently - I see that the UK is no longer high risk.
Thanks so much

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Done it a couple of times within the last month from Denmark. Less than 24 hours is transitting, so no need to register or anything. You are only allowed to use a hotel for emergency, so need to drive straight through.

I am driving through next week and am doing an overnight in Karlsruhe and so far as I can see the requirement is that you are fully vaccinated and have the NHS ap
From the UK guv website
"All travellers
Germany uses a two-tier system of risk categories (virus variant areas and high-risk areas), with distinct rules on entry and quarantine for each tier. See the complete list of designated areas.
From 20 February 2022 the UK is no longer designated as a ‘high-risk area’.
All travellers entering Germany having spent time in the previous ten days in a country designated at the time of entry as a high-risk or virus variant area are required to complete pre-departure digital registration, regardless of vaccination status. From 20 February 2022 pre-departure digital registration is not required for travellers from the UK.
All travellers aged 6 or over entering Germany from anywhere abroad must carry with them a negative test result or proof of vaccination or recovery. Proof of recovery requires at least 28 days and no more than 90 days to have elapsed since the date of the positive COVID-19 test.
If you’re fully vaccinated
You may enter Germany from the UK for any travel purpose if you are fully vaccinated."

Yes great - we have avoided a Germany stop over as didn’t want the hassle of testing the children. Stopping over in France instead!

DaveD, we did that stop over. We had our vaccinations checked when we had dinner. The hotel never looked at anything.

@Kate2004, you are probably better off getting a test for the kids. Even though the UK is no longer on the high risk list France is and by the sounds of it you will be stopping there. Whether you need to fill in the arrivals form is debatable (the airlines have been insisting on them even for transit) but if you are driving no one is going to check so not relevant. However the service stations are 3G and it is generally strictly enforced. This means showing a QR code proving you are vaccinated or have a recent test. If you dont have this the kids will be restricted to using the loos nothing else. Parts of Germany are FFP2 masks so make sure you have them (needed for Austria in any case). Austria is still a high risk area for Germany so (again in theory) you will need to comply with the relevant rules on your return, I dont know anyone who has been stopped and checked but there are a couple of reports here of people who have been.
