Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

World's Snowpack on the decline

 Poster: A snowHead

Cordillère des Andes
The most detailed forecast of the world's snow pack to date has predicted that, by the year 2100, the Andes in South America will have lost more than half its current winter snow pack, mountains in Europe and the US will have lost nearly half of theirs, and snow on New Zealand's mountains will have almost vanished.

The forecast, from the U.S. Department of Energy's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, comes from a new, century-long model that offers detail its authors call "an unprecedented picture of climate change."
...
It shows that, less than 100 years from now, Alaska will have 64% of the snow pack it had in 2000, the Alps will have 61%, Scandinavia 56%, the Sierras, Cascades and southern Rockies 57%, the Andes 45%, and Mount Cook in New Zealand only 16%.

The study appears in the Journal of Climate.

As they say in Scotland the case is " unproven ".

No more of this enviromental guff - there has been extremes of temperatures for millions of years. Very little we can do to change that . The problem IMV is that we are looking at it in a very short term generational view. Would we have a 100,000 years perspective then we may view it quite differently

Short-termism I call it. Some others may call inteference in the economy, imperialist ( telling China and India - sorry, you can't do that. We can,but you cannot).

...or as Jeremy Clarkson superbly put it: "This has been the coldest March for 30 years, thanks to global warming..."

There was a cold snap in the late Middle Ages when the Thames would freeze over completely in the winter. I think there was a similar warm period earlier on as well

Even the religious-right, red-state rednecks are beginning to concede the reality of global warming. Why? Because they're into huntin' and fishin':
