Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Long shot: Anyone lose a gopro?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Wife found a newish gopro on the slopes of Grand Massif Sunday, no one has reported losing one to any of the lost property /Tourist Info places. It contains pics of the owners but no contact info, and we'd like to trace them this week (hopefully they're still here). They're unlikely to be SH (too young!) but their parents might be Laughing

Any help / ideas? I can post pics of the owners but would rather not if at all possible.

Thanks!

Which slope? I can pass the request to a few French forums.

I dropped my gopro at the bottom of the Annecy lake two years ago (and not on a shallow part) and wish I knew of a diving discussion website to enquire about it.

Interesting fact I read a few years ago, on average over 300 gopros are lost in the Porte du soleil alone every day during the winter season, that means around 45,000 per season!!! Can't help with the owner of this particular one but good luck!

Any sites with face recognition? Facebook do such a thing. Also, any footage that may look like it could have been taken at hope? You could look at inf files for any info on where it was taken.

They're definitely British, they were paddleboarding in Skye last summer!

Will try gopro support as a last resort, not hopeful of recognising them in skiwear, the only media on it is from summer.

This probably explains why Tourist Info weren't remotely interested...

As you have to register your details with GoPro , they should be able to connect you to the original owner through the serial number.

GoPro support is probably a good shout, given they do subscription services and the mobile phone control app uses accounts (and is all but required to set them up these days), so it plausible they can track a serial number

I doubt they will pass details on to you, but can probably pass details for you to the owner. (And given they offer discounted replacement as part of their subscription, I would have thought they would be willing to do so...)

You need to be careful with lost devices. I once found a USB key in the car park at work. Examination showed that it was full of photos of a (married) colleague in various, er, exotic positions with a succession of ladies!

I dropped it in the internal mail in an unlabelled envelope snowHead

Reckon a lot of these lost GoPros are when someone attempts to stick the mounting plate to the tip of a ski/board, as it needs a good 24hrs+ to bond as I found out.

I can't really see how you could lose one of your helmet etc?

I'd question that number - thats four and a half metric tons of GoPro a season.

@JamesHJ, ...suspect... I reckon they wanted you to find it. wink

There's a Lost and Found Gopro group on Facebook. Maybe worth posting there.

Probably not while on piste, but chair lift safety bars could easily dislodge one. Off-piste, trees/branches will easily take a camera off a helmet. One of our group didn’t duck low enough going under a tree, and the camera was knocked off. We spent 20mins looking but couldn’t find it, then a couple of hours later in the same area, we saw the same distinctive tree and found it almost immediately.

I’ve found 3 mobile phones, all still working where people put them back in a pocket and missed! I just leave them at the base station.

@Ricklovesthepowder, must be every year. Bet there aren’t 300 wearers in a day in PDS!

Depending on the model and assuming You can connect to it via the app, you can make it 'beep' to help in those situations. Obviously not going to help if it's at the bottom of a lake or out of range of the phone app.

Sounds like an awfully large number.
300 go-pro wearers in a day during the summer MTB season in PDS I could definitely believe. Gotta make them sick edits. And get on Pinkbike Friday Fails on youchoob.

True. Right when it happened I thought: what a surprise, you idiot! In my case it took about five minutes for it to be sent up to me at the top. It came on its own chair, in a box! (Italy)
