Hello all
Is there a French equivalent of the UK small claims court? We’re owed €1000 and the person in question stopped communicating. We haven’t been pestering either but we’d like to get it back.

I used this against a company Germany - for a 3 grand wood burner.
They never shipped the item ( 3 months) and stopped replying to emails.
It didn't go to the tribunal, or anything. In the first instance, the court in Germany just forwards the complaint to the other party, and they have a certain amount of time to respond.
Within a 5 days of submitting the dossier, the wood burner magically got delivered.

Just getting back to this. Is it absolutely necessary to use a bailiff in France to serve the claim? If so, how much should this cost?
I've created the claim form, selected an appropriate court and now need to make the claim so |I'm looking for the easiest and cheapest way to do so.

@andybomb1, not sure this helps(!), but:
- the link above appears to be for a business claiming against a customer (or another business) rather than the other way around
- you could be asked to attend an oral hearing in the relevant (French) court
- as we are now out of the EU, if you win but the other party refuses to comply with whatever the court decides, you may find difficulty in getting the judgment enforced.

I'm not sure you can use the European small claims procedure due to Brexit, at least according to this:

Anyone know of any other methods? Or is it worth threatening using this even if it's not enforceable?

I think it’s still possible for civil claims (which mine would be). As I look into a bit more it seems the French system is to appoint a huissier de justice who from what I can tell sorts out minor issues before they start needlessly clogging the courts up.
