Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Saved my EU pass as PDF in iBooks, then left the app open all the time so I’d just display all open apps then jump to that one. Couldn’t see how to get it in wallet, annoyingly! Don’t need it much now at home.

Have a good week to the new arrivals!

Yet another fine day skiing in the sunshine. Went out with the intention of some gentle bimbling, took in some nice blue runs, then got attracted to Granota, one of the nicest black runs here.
Had a very brief encounter with@anarchicsaltire, , who somehow recognised us!
Sat in the sun drinking beer, then more skiing in the sunshine. It's just lovely here at present.
We also spent some time watching instructed groups, particularly kids. We are both instructors at home, and do lots with children, and I would say the on-snow instruction of kids here is the best we have seen anywhere, the mainly young instructors do proper exercises, and look after groups properly, and smile while doing it (unlike some of the dire follow me stuff we have seen from some ESF). I would really recommend the Grandvalira ski school for group children's lessons.

@RobinS, I’m interested to know whether they were tourist ski school lessons, or whether they looked like local ski school lessons?

I ask because, I’m a teacher here and by law schools in Andorra have to offer one day skiing a week to their children in winter. The kids can choose to go on the school organised sessions (usually with a ski school) or can go for a day a week with their ski club (if they have one). Most of the schools started their skiing this week. I’m missing our first week for obvious reasons!

@hammerite, We watched groups today, with Grandvalira jacketed instructors where the kids had something like French Andorra school on their bibs, all very well organised and controlled. We have also watched quite a few tourist lessons going on, and equally well run and organised. Not saying they are perfect, we did see one demo, and both commented that the instructor had got that the wrong way round, but none of us are perfect.

@RobinS, We were on a guided tour with one of the local instructors. Although we weren't under instruction his attitude and communication skills were excellent. Always friendly, engaged with the group well, remembered all 11 names and kept an eye and count on everybody. Superb skier as well.

@RobinS, sounds good. I’m looking forward to seeing my guys ski. If they’re anywhere near as good as the swimming lessons I’ve watched they’ll be excellent skiers!

@RobinS, I couldn’t agree with you more on the instructors, when we were there one dressed as Elvis, kids loved him.
I haven’t been there since 2003, I must get back some time now the GV is on one unified pass.

@geoffknight, depending on when you return, the whole of Andorra could be on one pass. The owners of Grandvalira and of Vallnord have agreed to merge at some point in the next year or two.

Well we had our final day out today, pistes still brilliant, weather superb, and we picked off a few runs we have missed so far. Grandvalira has really impressed on this trip, no big queues, uncrowded pistes, everyone really friendly. Haven't even suffered from out of control loony skiers!

Leaving for the U.K. today. Last day on the slopes as very busy with locals up for the weekend. The Esquirrol blue back to El Tarter was a scene of devastation and is to be avoided ! Had a superb lunch at the Restaurant de Pessions in Grand Raug, nect ti the lake on the Pies de Pessions blue run.
Will definitely come back !

@JD Mark, that’ll mostly be French and Spanish weekend/day trippers than locals. There aren’t enough people living in Andorra to make those slopes busy! Very Happy

I must time Esquirrol just right because it’s always been quite nice when I’ve gone down. That said, I finish the day at the top of the Funicamp, so I don’t hit it close to closing time!

Lovely day today. Nice firm, fast pistes and not particularly busy. Made the most of my first day out of isolation!

@RobinS, first time I’ve been out this season and the whole of the ‘easiest black in the world’ has been open. It is a bit more challenging but not massively. From the top it’s fairly gentle, followed by a steepish pitch for a couple of hundred metres. Then it joins up with the bit you skied. All fairly straightforward.
