Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Alpine soles (Dalbello Lupo) in London?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
A question for the knowledgeable experts!

I got some new Dalbello Lupo 120 boots last season for touring here at home in Scotland.

I've managed to get a cheap holiday to Austria going on Monday for 4 days and will be only piste skiing. I would like to take my Lupo boots to use with rental piste skis Smile

My GUESS is that the walk grip soles currently on my Lupos probably won't be 'officially' compatible with most rental bindings and that, although they would probably work ok, a rental shop won't let me. I will need to swap these soles for alpine soles.

My QUESTION is, is my guess correct? And, if it is, does anyone know anywhere I might be able to buy a set of alpine soles for my Lupos in London this Sunday?!? Smile

At home in Scotland I have been skiing on my touring skis with an Atomic Shift binding and the Lupos are great. I do have a pair of Fischer Ranger downhill boots but they have really packed out and my Lupos have a much better fit so I would prefer to ski in them next week. I'm not taking skis to Austria because I need to go to via London and don't want to cart a ski bag about on multiple trains for the sake of 4 days' skiing!)

Another option might be to try and get the partial vacuum thingy in my downhill Fischer boots remoulded (revacuumised?!?) but, again, I would need to do this in London on Sunday!!

Be really grateful for any thoughts from anyone with knowledge of soles or where I might buy soles (or sell my soul?!) in London.

Thanks so much!
Graeme

I can't see there being a problem with grip walk soles. A lot of bindings are GW compatible now and the system has been around for a while. The hire kit in Austria is normally brand new so I would just go with your boots, as is.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@Graeme_ski, I think you'll be ok, as @Klamm Franzer says, most rental bindings are compatible with Grip walk. I hired 3 different sets of piste skis from 2 different shops in Tignes a fortnight ago and all were ok with Grip walk.

Thank you both so much! This is very reassuring. I really appreciate you taking the time to reply.

Happy New Year!

(And, Tom, I'm jealous... My trip to Tignes last week was cancelled and the snow looked amazing!)

All the best for 2022!

@Graeme_ski, Just spotted that you're new here. Welcome, and those weird abbreviations I used are 2 of the Snowheads Bashes, trips run by Admin.

@Graeme_ski,
I happen to have a spare pair of Lupo Alpine DIN soles (double ordered by mistake) which are still wrapped. PM me if you are interested.
