I’ve done this but used the metal studs that are used on Jeans ( denim). Put mine on the rearmost strap give enough pull to ensure a good mask fit.
You can get the studs from Amazon. |

Very interesting thread. I have been thinking of getting a 3D printer - though I would need to think to put it in the workshop.
I'm thinking of returning to the Alps for the first time since 2018. Are masks regularly worn on the slopes? I had been hoping avoiding wearing one by using chairlifts.

Yes in Austria anyway we are wearing FFP2 masks on the chairlifts as most of them have bubbles so it’s an enclosed space.
It’s fine once you get used to it, I wear mine over my Buff actually a little bit because it’s quite rough material on the ones I’ve got. There are people who don’t put it up on their face or they are a ‘nose dangler’ like we get in Britain but it’s not policed. Yet!

That looks like a good solution if they work. Better than drilling holes in your helmet or its straps!

Can you imagine the faff factor that will happen as the High Season family arrives at the bottom of the lift and parents then have to make sure all the kids have their masks on, and then take their gloves off to fit the masks on the little ones etc etc
Though don't know if kids will have to wear them?
Queue waiting times will also increase because of the above I'd surmise.

That’s why I like my extender idea, no interfering with the helmet or its straps, no sticking anything to the helmet. Nice and comfy on the back of the neck and simple to get rid of when all this is over (if it ever is)

Depends on how heavily they police it.
I think all this will put a lot of people with kids off going anyway unless they are really really committed and keen.

They would be no good if they later bring in the FFP2 requirement like in Austria and Germany though and also if they are going to check people (doubt it) before getting on the lifts then they look similar to ordinary ski masks some people wear (when they’ve got the helmet on you can only see the front bit) whereas with these FFP2 masks it’s glaringly obvious you’re wearing one!

Once I’d sorted the ear pulling nonsense it was actually quite nice wearing it in the gondolas. No more smelling people reeking of booze or what they ate last night!
Not sure I’d want one on when it’s warm mind but of course at the moment it’s quite cold.

@tarrantd, I've got a couple of packets of these from doing the Christmas decorations, will give it a go, might be fiddly with gloves, but at least no damage to helmets

I've got one of the original buff filter masks, had it since it came out >18months. That review is very accurate, the filter shifts about and doesn't stay in place. I wouldn't recommend, however unless I'm mistaken it is one of the few Buff type masks that is accredited to BS /EN standards for medical grade mask. So it theoretically meets the rules for places like Italy etc when others don't, if you're a stickler for those sorts of things.

@harrim51, oh great, mine arrived this morning
Better have a backup device.
Though my buff is much snugger than that, I doubt if I could pull it more than an inch from my face. I measured in at lower end of the larger size but bought the smaller size.
Edit to add: my buff is different to the video in that the "loading slot" is on the short upper hexagon side, not the top side.
Paid a tenner from OutdoorGB

In Val T this week, no one seems that bothered about faces being covered never mind the type of covering.

Is this what you got? https://www.outdoorgb.com/p/buff_filter_tube/
Just had a look on the website and it seemed like a good product, but then i saw a disclaimer saying it shouldn't be used instead of PPE. Confusing!

@DCG, Yes, different colour and size (now sold out) but both are current models if you compare with the Buff website.
The enclosed leaflet basically says the it's not for professional use.

Hi,
One question for Austria. I googled ffp2 masks and it looks like KN95 type masks. Can we not use the standard blue surgical disposable ones when in hotels and lifts etc?
Thanks a lot

@marcs44, the blue ones aren’t FP2, you have to wear FP2 everywhere. They are easily bought in supermarkets for about 60 cents.
You will need one for arrival as the terminal building and any public transport require them.

So a bit more rigorous in Monterosa yesterday, but a cursory wiggle of a bog standard buff seemed adequate.
For completeness, green pass checks weren't 100% either

We picked up some of these in Zermatt last year
https://www.sportxx.ch/de/p/465216500000/skears
They seemed to worked OK on the PSB last week. They also have a small hole I threaded a little string through so that the mask could be fixed to one side so it did not fall off and get lost.

I bought some from Amazon after reading a recommendation on here, you slip one through the goggle retainer at the back of the helmet and then there are little clips at each end which hold the string on goggles in place.
