Which is the easiest/quickest to get to for a days skiing in early December, will have a car. I know for Zermatt you have to get the train up from tasch, can’t remember how much walking is required from the train to the lifts. Have skied in Saas once before in October, but cant remember what was involved.

I would have thought the problem with Zermatt is that the glacier is so far up the mountain. I think you should consider lift access times first.

Probably easier to take the car to Saas Fee. You park in the multi storey car park and the it’s not far to the lifts from there.

The glacier’s are also a long way up the mountain at Saas-Fee, so how close the skiing is depends on the conditions.
From the main car park to get to the top of the resort it’s probably an absolute minimum of 30 mins, assuming everything links perfectly and there are no queues. It breaks down as:
- Walk or take bus from car park to closest lift (Alpin Express), 5-10 mins
- First stage of Alpin Express, 10 mins. If conditions good you can ski from here.
- Second stage Alpin Express, 8 mins. If conditions good you can ski from here.
- Walk through tunnel and take underground train to 3500m and the glacier, 10 mins.
If it’s busy and there are queues, you could add another 30-60 mins, as you wait at lifts, to get on train.
Saas-Fee’s attraction, and it’s downside is that there is always skiable snow, so if conditions are poor elsewhere many will go to Saas-Fee. Also make sure you check weather conditions, as the top lifts are often shut during high winds, where lower resorts remain open.

Saas Fee is definitely quicker than Zermatt from car to snow, as unlike Zermatt you can park in the village. Much easier now that there is a bus from the car park to the Alpin Express. @PowderAdict, is being very optimistic though, it takes at least 40 minutes if all goes well to reach the very top at 3500m (and that starting from the village itself). You can, however, get on the snow more quickly from the top of Alpin Express.
That said if you are willing to throw a bit of cash at it Zermatt is absolutely doable for a day, just takes a bit of organising. In normal times we have a week in Sass Fee in the spring, and always go over to Zermatt for a day trip (and lunch!). The only efficient way to do it with a car is to book a taxi from Tasch, there are a few operators where you can park your car and they will then drive you to the edge of Zermatt (only taxis are allowed on the road up to the village). Arrange to have an electro taxi meet you at the Zermatt drop-off point to take you to the lift station.

Thanks all, sounds quite straight forward, intending to go on Friday 2nd December, hopefully snow will be ok !! Then ski Verbier Sat - Monday.
