Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Jet2 ski carriage

Not travelled with Jet2 with my skis previously. So just went online to book them in.
Supposedly they are limited to 6ft, 182cm. Really?
https://www.jet2.com/travel-essentials/sports-equipment

I am presuming that is not enforced but gives them the leeway to get arsey if they choose.

ianbradders,

Well... On the one and only time we flew with Jet2 (a few years ago) Mrs B and I turned up at Leeds Bradford with "standard sized" (by Ryanair, BA and Easyjet standards) hand luggage.

So far so good...

However, our excitement was dampened somewhat when the officious check in lady produced a tape measure, duly measured our bags, told us they were too big and relieved us of 20 quid each to check them in! Sad

She asked if we'd like to pay £40 each return but we politely declined her generous offer (and carried the bags on for free at Geneva on our return). wink

@ianbradders, never had an issue. My ski bag is around 190cm

@Bergmeister, that's odd as their carry on size is still the same as BA. easyJet standard is now smaller and it's anyone's guess what Ryanair's policy today.

@ianbradders, no issues for us at Edinburgh or Salzburg with then last week. One of our ski bags was a triple bag and must be 190 cm long. 23kg weight limit from memory??

Yes, should be fine, they did in March 2017 when I flew Leeds-Salzburg and took a ski tube and separate boot bag.
Their FAQ states that ski carriage includes poles & boots so a boot bag should be OK, but combined weight shouldn't exceed 22kgs.

We're flying with jet2 through Neilson's. I've paid for ski carriage. I want to take two pairs of skis, worth risking it? If I'm in the limits then can't image they check contents?

@blacksheep, website gives a weight limit - in my experience, so long as you are inside this, you should be fine.

I've just got off the phone to the Jet2 sales desk in BHX because I wanted to be sure. They allow skis and boots to be in separate bags, so long as the combined total is less than 22kg.

Only problem for me is, my skis are mounted with Marker Dukes, which weigh about half that on their own...

Just booked a jet 2 flight and paid for a standard check in bag , this will be my double ski bag loaded with boots and everything else . Easily keep under 22kg especially as there is another 10kg with hand luggage.
Always use a soft bag /rucksack for this though to avoid size limit check.
The size max for checked in bags is 180cm which is just ok for my skis but I doubt they check anything unless it looks way longer.
In my experience Jet2 are excellent and very helpful !
My return flight with Ryan Air may be a different story though !

Never had an issue with Jet2 and weve been with them a few times, my ski bag is a double and its 200cm, its usually got my powder sticks in which can be up to 195 depending on what i'm taking.

Flew from Stansted to Salzberg last week with 2 pairs in 1 bag. Probably a 6ft bag. Weighed in at 15 kg no problems at either end

Just flown back on a Jet2 flight Toulouse/Manchester and fine with 2 pairs skis in 1 bag. They asked if we had separate boot bag as they seemed to expect that too but we put boots in the normal hold bag with clothes. No problems. Have travelled with Easyjet and other airlines with 2 pairs in 1 bag and no issues as long as not overweight. Never had the bag length measured.

Flew from Edinburgh - Salzburg on Saturday and the chap at Edinburgh didn’t care that we had skis and boots, he said as long as it’s under 22kg, it’s not a problem. Was super smooth actually, I would definitely recommend Jet2. Hopefully it is as smooth on the return journey.

I just flew Jet2 for, perhaps, the second time ever last week and was impressed. They gave us the option of checking our 10kg carry on luggage into the hold free of charge, which of course we jumped at. Many others did as well so the plane loaded fast with non of this fighting up an down the aile to find somewhere to put your big bag that you get with some airlines. It was all very civilised.
