Poster: A snowHead

Just wondering if anyone else is still hoping that their kid's school trips will go ahead at half term? My daughter's trip is not yet cancelled, I have asked but not received a reply yet so I'm wondering if they're still holding out hope.
Selfishly I need to know in case we should try and book a family trip instead.

@Soozm, could you book an apartment now, with free cancellation options, as a back up?
obviously, travelling to resort is another problem, but if you are able to and prepared to drive to resort, it gives you an option to book travel nearer the time, as you can normally get Eurotunnel crossings close to travel dates.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@Soozm, we've just paid the final balance on our December school ski trip (to France). The organisers say that they've been flat out with bookings recently.

Thanks both... ours is particularly unlikely as it's to Canada and the majority of the children are under 16 (so only one jab planned). She is desperate to go and there is a rumour circulating (wishful thinking I guess) that it might be moved to Europe.

Our school just cancelled the half term trip.. good in a way as we can book for the whole family now. Just got to choose where - possibly the Dolomites if I can get my head round transfer times.

Mrs Dougie is a teacher in a high school and have two trips going in 2022, of which she is on both. One at Easter is the one that is supposed to be going this Easter (Flachau). The other is the cancelled trip from last Easter, this time going to Obertauern. The letter went out last week strongly suggesting getting vaccinated and the issues their children will face should they not.

Our school still mucking around tying up loose ends with insurance-what is covered and what is not, covid related....
But there would be little chance of us doing one this season anyway with all the issues regarding possible testing for kids if they are not double vaccinated to access lifts. Even if resorts say it is not needed now, there is no way of predicting how this might change over the coming months.
It will be interesting to see if schools require children to be vaccinated to go overseas in the future if certification remains in the destination country, given the extra admin and testing organisation it would necessitate from teachers.

I run summer adventure activities for schools in the alps and the odd schools ski touring trip.
Most of the UK schools I have spoken to are not looking to travel, their biggest fear is if a child get’s a positive test and need to quarantine and there for can’t get the organised transport back to the UK and how they would deal with it. The nightmare of the extra paperwork need for the trip and seeing who has had what treatment. And the risk that if number change the rules may change and how it will effect the refund/insurance.
