Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I recommend you take a look at the regs around the new ‘Super Green Pass’ that is being introduced from the 7th of Dec.
If you have 12-15 year old kids you will need to be able to show proof of their (single dose) vaccination in a QR format to access lifts/ restaurants etc. Right now the NHS App doesn’t allow for this and for this reason we are likely going to have to cancel our upcoming trip.

Do you know if a single dose for a 16 year old will be sufficient for a Super Green Pass post Dec 7th?

No one knows yet - the official regs haven’t been published. So far it’s just journos reporting.

Dolomiti have just started emailing subscribers directly regarding the Green Pass requirements. Hopefully, there won't be too many surprises when people get to resort.

Some area opening tomorrow ::

".This Saturday, 27 November, Dolomiti Superski starts the 2021-22 winter season with even more enthusiasm than usual. It has been a long and hard time, but now we are ready. The slopes of Cortina-Col Gallina at Passo Falzarego, numerous slopes and lifts on all three sides of Kronplatz-Plan de Corones and slopes and lifts at Passo Monte Croce and Signaue in the 3 Cime Dolomites area will already be open this weekend. The majority of our facilities will follow on December 4th.."

=====
Interesting change to the interactive map = it will show how crowed a particular lift is !

"..Skiers will also find an innovative map that displays the number of skiers present at the lifts as part of the new Dolomiti Superski App and integrated into the 3D ski map on the website. This tool measures the occupancy rate of the lift facilities within a unit of time. By consulting the map, skiers can evaluate the optimal time to use a given lift, thus avoiding crowding..."

Well done the Kronplatians!
They have started their season on time and now have just under a third of their runs complete and half of their lifts open. Unfortunately visibility is very poor so it’s difficult to actually spot anyone skiing !

https://www.bergfex.com/kronplatz/webcams/c14486/

According to this website they are in the top four resorts in Europe in terms of open runs:

https://www.skiresort.info/snow-reports/europe/sorted/open-slopes/

The weather is looking cold into December so from here they will make more snow and gradually open up more runs over the next couple of weeks. They usually have all 119kms and 35 lifts open by Christmas with much more skiing also available in the Sella Ronda 20 minutes up the road.

It is remarkable how early and how reliably they open up each year given that the top of their skiing is only 2,275m.

You wouldn’t choose Kronplatz for off piste skiing but it’s a reliable destination for early season piste running.

Hi guys, we will be visiting Cortina D'Ampezzo between 3 – 8 December. Opening is scheduled for 4 December, do you think that will include the majority of pistes or will there only be a limited area available to ski?

thanks for any advice, I haven't been before.

The next milestone is Saturday 4th December. That is the scheduled opening date for most of the Sella Ronda resorts. Remarkably the Sella Ronda circuit is also supposed to open on Saturday which seems incredibly early this year ?

They look to be on target though with good cover on north facing runs downs to at least 1800m.

https://www.dolomitisuperski.com/en/Experience/Ski-areas/Arabba/Webcam#

The air is very cold today (-17c on the higher peaks) with lots of snowmaking taking place.
The outlook is staying cold and mostly dry which should mean good visibility for slope preparation. Hopefully no interruptions from the weather and therefore reliable skiing.

So.. off to Selva for the 20th still, but my 16 year old daughter won’t be allowed in any restaurants as a result of the new Super Green Pass. Evenings are ok as we’re self catering, but are there likely to be enough places on the mountain where we can eat outside (even in inclement weather?) I presume they must be gearing up for anti-Vaxxers / nervous types to accommodate that.

Fwiw, they are trying snowboarding this time, so will spend the first couple of days on the nursery slopes - means well probably stay in the general area.

We arrive in Selva on the 12th, still planning on going with my 16 year old (single jabbed). I understand that restaurants might well be closed, but hotel restaurants and facilities remain operational for residents. I hope that is the case.

Still not fully clear on the impact of the Super Green Pass for 16 years olds. Will they still be able to do antigen tests in the town i wonder?

I think you’re right from what I’ve read e.g (from my other post): These were the best articles I found (Edge will translate for you):

https://www.ilsole24ore.com/art/super-green-pass-e-obbligo-vaccinale-ecco-novita-24-domande-e-risposte-AEM514y?refresh_ce=1.

https://www.lavoripubblici.it/news/decreto-legge-misure-urgenti-super-green-pass-consiglio-dei-ministri-27098

The existing green pass remains for certain activities e.g ski lifts and cable cars, but not clear if the previous reg of one jab being sufficient still, or if we’ll need testing.

(Interestingly I spent a good chunk of some work calls today looking through the new regs - via Yandex translate - they are phrased as amendments to the original e.g. replace the following phrase …. , but I couldn’t see anywhere where they revoked the super green pass applying from 15 days after the first jab. Wondering if that’s slipped past, or if they’ll amend further).

Looks like the Colfoscans, Corvarans, Arrabians and Gardenians have been busy making snow and getting the runs ready. Remarkably, the Sella Ronda circuit opens today. Does it normally open this early ?

https://www.dolomitisuperski.com/en/Experience/Ski-areas/Alta-Badia/Webcam#

The Dolomites are looking mostly dry and cool into December with quite a few sunshine hours forecast over the next week. Conditions should be great for early season skiing.

These are the stats on what’s open today:

https://www.dolomitisuperski.com/en/Open-lifts

And the site below shows that the SuperDolomiti is doing well in terms of amount of open runs though it must be noted that many of the Austrian ski areas are temporarily closed.

https://www.skiresort.info/snow-reports/europe/sorted/open-slopes/

Back in Kronplatz they are recording 120cms at the top. The snow pushing down into Austria earlier this week crept over the alpine ridge just far enough south to reach the northern Dolomites. Conditions appear to be excellent this morning with plenty of skiers on the webcams.

https://www.dolomitisuperski.com/en/Experience/Ski-areas/Kronplatz/Webcam#

Across the whole Dolomiti Superski lift area there are now 612km of runs open out of a total of 1200 and 277 lifts are open today out of a total of 450. Pretty good for the the first weekend of December Cool

At the end of the video he mentions the points card doesn't work with the green pass. I can't see that anywhere else can anyone confirm? If that is true what are the options for non skiers to go up gondolas?

I suspect the requirement is to allow you through the automatic gates/turnstiles ; Presumable, non-skiers would have to show their 'covid pass' to an employee to be granted access to the lift..?

This directly from the Dolomiti superski website https://www.dolomitisuperski.com/en/Ski-pass/Prices (you have to expand the points value card section to see the details).

"In the winter season 2021/2022, the points value card will only be accepted on ski lifts and chairlifts without a canopy. Value cards purchased in the winter season 2019/2020 and 2021/2022 with any remaining points can be used, as an exception in the winter season 2022/2023."

It sounds to me as if the points value card cannot be used on Gondolas. That could well be a problem for non-skiers as a full ski pass is going to be expensive just go up and down a couple of times.

It does also say this, so maybe the single lift passes are the way to do it.

"Please verify the convenience of using the points value card or purchasing single rides at the lift facilities, particularly in case of combined ascent and descent rides."

Week two of their season and Kronplatz is now reporting 140cms at the top. 90% of the lifts are running and 65% of the slopes are now open including the 7km run right down to the train station at Reid.

Meanwhile the Sella Ronda is open in both directions and Corvara is reporting a lower slope piste depth of 50cms and an upper slope depth of 76cms.

Dolomiti Superski are now reporting 711kms of piste open and 318 lifts operational. It’s a great start for the third year running with a combination of natural snow and snow making helped by several weeks of low temperatures.

https://www.dolomitisuperski.com/en/Open-lifts

Looks to be staying cold until about the 13th then things warm up across the Alps but it looks dry probably with plenty of sunshine so the skiing should be great. Wish I was out there this session Sad

It does look like he wasn't wearing a FFPP 2 style mask on the lifts, which seems to be the standard required in public indoor spaces. Wonder if they're just being relaxed with enforcing it?
